Full Job Description
The Associate Director, Software Engineering leads software engineering teams responsible for the development, delivery, support, and modernization of enterprise applications, data platforms, and API-based integration solutions. This leader is accountable for ensuring technology investments align with business objectives while maintaining operational excellence, scalability, security, and reliability.

The role is responsible for managing engineering resources, technology and application lifecycles, and delivery execution across a portfolio of applications, enterprise data stores, databases, and API services. The Associate Director partners closely with business leaders, product teams, architects, and enterprise stakeholders to define priorities, drive strategic initiatives, and deliver measurable business value.

This position owns the technology roadmap for assigned assets, including applications, enterprise databases, data platforms, and APIs. The leader is responsible for driving modernization efforts, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards, and communicating strategy, progress, risks, and outcomes to business and technology stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop high-performing software engineering teams responsible for enterprise applications, databases, data platforms, and API services.
  • Own the technology roadmap for assigned applications, enterprise data stores, databases, APIs, and integration platforms.
  • Drive the delivery of technology solutions that support strategic business initiatives and enterprise objectives.
  • Manage resource planning, staffing decisions, skill development, and budget responsibilities across multiple engineering teams.
  • Oversee application lifecycle management, including development, maintenance, modernization, support, and retirement activities.
  • Lead technology lifecycle management efforts, ensuring platforms, frameworks, databases, and tools remain current, secure, and supportable.
  • Establish engineering best practices across software development, data engineering, API development, DevOps, and operational support.
  • Ensure the scalability, availability, performance, security, and reliability of enterprise applications, databases, and API ecosystems.
  • Partner with enterprise architects and business stakeholders to define data, integration, and application strategies.
  • Govern API and data management standards, ensuring consistency, reusability, and alignment with enterprise architecture principles.
  • Communicate technology strategy, delivery status, risks, dependencies, and investment recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement through automation, modernization, cloud adoption, and engineering excellence initiatives.
  • Drive the adoption and effective utilization of AI-powered engineering tools and platforms to improve software development productivity, code quality, testing efficiency, operational support, and overall delivery outcomes.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of software engineering, application development, data engineering, or technology delivery experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for enterprise applications, relational and/or cloud-based databases, and API/integration platforms.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data management, API design and governance, system integration patterns, and software engineering best practices.
  • Experience with application lifecycle management, technology lifecycle management, and platform modernization initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing technology roadmaps.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams, vendor relationships, and technology investments.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms, cloud-native architectures, API management platforms, and modern integration technologies.
  • Experience with Azure, AWS, Databricks, data warehousing, and large-scale data management solutions.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, insurance, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience leading digital transformation, cloud migration, or enterprise modernization initiatives.


Location & Work Environment: This position requires a hybrid work arrangement with 3 to 4 days per week in the office. Qualified candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to Louisville, KY or Tampa, FL.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$156,600 - $215,400 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
