Full Job Description
Work Shifts

9:00 A.M - 5:00 P.M.

Monday - Friday with weekend and overnight coverage, as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under direction of the Director of Social Work, assists in the planning, organizing, implementation and coordination of the full Social Work Program in a hospital center. Plans, supervises and coordinates the staff and activities of several discrete Social Work units. Serves with full responsibilities and authority in the Director's absence. In a Psychiatric Facility, assists in planning, formulating policies and practices, coordinates the Psychiatric Social Work program and practice throughout the Hospital Center.

Examples of Typical Tasks:

Plans, coordinates and supervises staff and activities of selected Social Work program units and other such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director. In a Psychiatric Facility, advises in psychiatric social problems, and defines the psychiatric social work role and function.

In uncovered areas of need, carries out responsibilities of all viable programs.

Assures that programs are related to objectives and meet requirements of service needs.

Consults with and advises Director on resolution of operational programs.

Is responsible for liaison and coordination of cooperative programs with Schools of Social Work and directing assignments and on-the-job training of assigned students to assure optimal utilization.

Evaluates and audits social work program and/or psychiatric social work programs, program accomplishments and makes recommendations for appropriate action.

Develops communication networks to achieve appropriate interpretation of the hospital's policies and programs and its expectation for patient and family.

Advises the Director on policy and procedural changes, community problems, placement and utilization of staff development and implementation of productivity goals and submits recommendations for improvement of services.

Maintains liaison and consults with community and civic agencies, professional organizations and confers with hospital and other functionally-related officials on matters of mutual concern.

Develops and directs the education and training programs for professional and nonprofessional Social Work staff. Is responsible for evaluation of performance of professional staff.

Participates in staff meetings and conferences and represents the Director in all phases of his or her delegated duties and responsibilities.

Prepares special reports, studies and budgetary estimates.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensure (LMSW or LCSW) issued by The New York State Education Department (NYSED); and,
2. Six (6) years of experience in Clinical Social Work, of which three (3) years are in a health care or medical care setting including psychiatric and medical social work, and three (3) years in a supervisory, consultative and administrative capacity in a organization adhering to acceptable standards with knowledge of administration, with administrative and managerial skills and abilities; or,
3. A satisfactory completion of training and experience. However, all applicants/incumbents must possess licensure as described in (1) above at the time of appointment; and,
4. Demonstrated ability to function productively and cooperatively with Director of Social Work, Medical Staff, and Administrative Staff and to supervise effectively.
