Job Description Summary:

The Associate Director, Research Policy is responsible for tracking and analyzing new state and federal laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, and other actions that impact research in a timely manner with an emphasis on System member needs and communicate new state and federal laws, regulations guidelines, policies and other actions that impact research to the Vice Chancellor for Research and relevant A&M System stakeholders in an effective and timely manner. The Associate Director will also manage the operationalization of any needed policy or process changes to address new and emerging regulatory or guidance changes.

Responsibilities:
- Track and analyze new state and federal laws, regulations, guidelines, policies, and other actions that impact research in a timely manner with an emphasis on System member needs.

- Communicate new state and federal laws, regulations guidelines, policies and other actions that impact research to the Vice Chancellor for Research and relevant A&M System stakeholders in an effective and timely manner.

- Coordinate closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research to develop appropriate responses and action plans based on gap analyses and risk profiles;

- Prioritize responses and action plans based on potential impact.

- Draft, review, and revise, where appropriate, policy and guidance documents for the System and/or its members.

- Develop reports, metrics, and dashboards for senior System leadership.

- Coordinate with respective subject matter experts and cross-functional leaders within the System to recommend, develop, implement, and operationalize changes to research policies and processes to address new legal, regulatory, or funding agency policies.

- Monitor the research funding and compliance landscape for potential emerging policy trends to ensure System and member readiness.

- Assess compliance with System research policies and processes, working with System members and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research in a collaborative manner to address compliance needs.

- Represent the System at national and regional meetings focused on research policy.

- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Six years of related experience in research administration, research compliance, or research policy review.

Registration, Certifications, and Licenses:

- Certification within the field of research administration or compliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication.

- Strong organizational and analytical skills.

- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Graduate degree in a science, technology, engineering, or related field.
- Previous governmental relations experience.
- Experience in leadership roles within professional associations focused on research administration or compliance.
