About the position

The Associate Director for the Charlotte BCSC office is responsible for assisting director in overseeing all survey-related operations within the Charlotte office, including field and office staff, project execution, quality control, and departmental growth. This role provides leadership across all surveying disciplines, including boundary, topographic, construction, ALTA/NSPS, and utility surveys-ensuring consistency, efficiency, and adherence to company standards.

The position plays a critical role in scaling operations, mentoring staff, maintaining technical excellence, and supporting strategic expansion in the Charlotte market.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a target of 60-70% billable utilization while balancing leadership responsibilities.
  • Oversee all survey operations for the Charlotte office, including fieldwork and office production.
  • Ensure quality control and consistency across all survey deliverables.
  • Manage project lifecycles from proposal through completion, including scheduling, budgeting, and client communication.
  • Prepare proposals, contracts, and assist in negotiations with clients.
  • Monitor project budgets, billing, and profitability.
  • Collaborate with company leadership to align Charlotte operations with overall company goals.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for both field and office workflows.
  • Oversee training programs for field crews and CAD staff, ensuring adoption of best practices and new technologies.
  • Support business development efforts and help grow the Charlotte market presence.
  • Step into project management or operational roles as needed during high workload periods or staff absences.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy across all survey types.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in surveying, including leadership or management roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of field and office survey operations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • North Carolina PLS (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe) preferred.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills across both field and office environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of multiple survey types (boundary, topographic, construction staking, ALTA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal surveying regulations and standards.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage budgets, forecasting, and operational performance.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • Proficiency in survey technology (GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors, drones/UAS is a plus).
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and drafting standards.

Pay:
  • $125,000 minimum yearly salary depending upon experience
