Job Description:TD Innovation Partners (TDIP) is the technology and innovation banking platform within TD Bank, providing specialized banking, financing, and ecosystem solutions to venture-backed and innovation-focused companies across Canada.
The Associate Director, Relationship Management, Fintech is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of fintech clients, specializing in the payments, embedded finance platforms, lending businesses, and other regulated or emerging financial technology companies.
As a trusted advisor, the Associate Director develops deep client relationships, delivers deposit, treasury, operational banking and credit solutions, and partners across TD to support clients as they scale. The role requires a strong understanding of financial services business models, regulatory frameworks, payments infrastructure, liquidity management, and specialized financing solutions for the fintech sector.
CUSTOMER- Manage a portfolio of fintech, payments, and other clients by providing proactive advice and delivering an exceptional client experience.
- Develop trusted relationships with founders, CEOs, CFOs, treasury leaders, operations teams, investors, and boards.
- Serve as the primary relationship owner for clients requiring sophisticated banking solutions, including operating accounts, treasury management services, payment infrastructure, liquidity management, and deposit products.
- Identify and deliver tailored banking solutions that address clients' operational, regulatory, funding, and growth objectives.
- Develop a detailed understanding of customer business models, transaction flows, regulatory obligations, settlement processes, capital structures, and funding strategies.
- Partner with Capital Solutions teams to identify and structure working capital facilities, operating lines, venture debt, warehouse facilities, and other credit opportunities, where appropriate.
- Assist fintech clients in navigating operational banking requirements associated with payments ecosystems, money movement, custody arrangements, treasury operations, and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with investors, venture capital firms, ecosystem partners, payment networks, and industry stakeholders to deliver value-added introductions and support client growth.
SHAREHOLDER - Achieve portfolio growth objectives through acquisition and expansion of relationships within thefintech, payments, and other embedded finance sectors.
- Develop and execute industry-specific business development strategies targeting emerging and established financial technology companies.
- Grow deposit balances, treasury management revenue, credit utilization, and overall relationship profitability while maintaining a prudent risk profile.
- Monitor portfolio performance and proactively identify emerging business, regulatory, operational, liquidity, and reputational risks.
- Partner with Risk Management, Compliance, AML, Payments, Treasury Management, Investment Bank, and Capital Solutions teams to deliver sustainable client solutions.
- Maintain strong knowledge of developments affecting the fintech ecosystem, including payment modernization initiatives, open banking developments, digital asset markets, money services businesses, registered payment service providers, and evolving regulatory expectations.
- Ensure all client relationships are managed in accordance with applicable risk appetite, AML requirements, compliance standards, and governance expectations.
- Contribute to product development, strategic initiatives, and process enhancements that strengthen TD's fintech banking capabilities.
EMPLOYEE / TEAM - Serve as a fintech subject matter expert within TDIP and the broader Commercial Bank.
- Share industry knowledge and best practices related to fintech, payments, financial infrastructure, and digital assets.
- Support education initiatives across TD by helping business partners better understand emerging financial technology sectors.
- Develop productive relationships with internal partners across Payments, Treasury Management, Capital Markets, Regulatory Compliance, AML, Legal, Risk Management, Wealth, and Commercial Banking.
- Mentor Associates and support team development through coaching and knowledge sharing.
- Represent TDIP at fintech conferences, industry associations, investor events, and ecosystem forums.
- Contribute to TDIP's reputation as a leading banking partner to Canada's innovation and financial technology ecosystem.
BREADTH & DEPTH - Expert-level professional role requiring substantial relationship management, commercial banking, and fintech industry expertise.
- Deep understanding of financial technology ecosystems, payment infrastructure, operating models, capital structures, and emerging financial services trends.
- Ability to advise clients on complex banking, treasury, liquidity, operational, and financing matters.
- Interprets evolving regulatory, industry, and market developments and translates them into practical banking solutions and strategic advice.
- Independently manages a portfolio of sophisticated relationships operating in highly regulated and rapidly evolving sectors.
- Exercises sound judgment when evaluating complex operational, regulatory, and credit-related matters.
- Influences decision-making among senior executives, investors, operators, and internal stakeholders.
- Functions as a recognized industry resource within TD for fintech, payments, and digital asset-related opportunities.
- Works independently with minimal supervision and a high degree of accountability.
- Generally reports to the Director, Relationship Management.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION - Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in commercial banking, fintech banking, payments, treasury management, corporate banking, financial institutions coverage, or relationship management.
- Strong knowledge of payments ecosystems, treasury and cash management, deposit products, commercial lending and credit structures, and fintechI business models.
- Experience working with fintech companies, payment service providers, digital asset businesses, lending platforms, financial infrastructure providers, or regulated financial institutions.
- Strong business development, networking, and relationship management capabilities.
- Knowledge of Canadian and global fintech regulatory environments, including payment systems, AML obligations, digital asset frameworks, and financial institution risk management, is considered an asset.
- Professional designations such as CFA, CPA, CBV, MBA, CTP, or equivalent are considered an asset.
