Full Job Description
Position Summary
The Associate Director of New Student Programs provides leadership and direction for New Student Orientation (NSO) and New Student Enrollment (NSE). Reporting to the Director of Outreach & Recruitment, this position supervises New Student Advisors and the New Student Orientation Specialist. This position plays a key role in building, sustaining, and evaluating student onboarding processes. The Associate Director balances strategic planning with hands-on outreach to prospective students, families, and community partners.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Position Salary Range: $78,777/year - $114,227/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $87,639/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position may be eligible for overtime under the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Positions with salaries below the WA State Salary Threshold is eligible for overtime pay.

Essential Functions

Supervision and Operations Leadership
  • Lead and direct New Student Advisors in achieving established new student onboarding goals, ensuring alignment with divisional and institutional priorities, under the direction of the Director of Outreach and Recruitment
  • Provide leadership and supervision for the New Student Programs team to deliver timely, culturally responsive onboarding services to new students in-person, virtually, and over the phone
  • Provide feedback, instruction, encouragement, and resource support to new student advising and orientation staff to enable continuous improvement and to promote optimum job performance, including analysis of appropriate professional development opportunities to ensure proper training
  • Ensure that new student presentations and events have appropriate staffing and technology
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine onboarding models aligned with Guided Pathways and institutional priorities
  • Direct and oversee NSO and NSE operations, including scheduling, staffing, registration review, orientation hold processes, and communications; ensure compliance, accuracy, and timely service delivery
  • Provide leadership for the Department of Welcome Center in the absence of the Director
  • Select and hire staff, make recommendations for disciplinary action, approve/deny leave requests, evaluate employee performance yearly, resolve grievances in consultation with HR, establish office expectations, and take corrective action
  • Hire and train student workers in support of new student orientation and advising operations as needed
  • Ensure team compliance with CRM data entry standards (e.g., Slate, Salesforce) to maintain data integrity across all recruitment activity
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce duplication, increase efficiency, and improve the student experience
New Student Orientation and New Student Enrollment Coordination
  • Lead the New Student Programs team in the design, development, and continuous improvement of new student program curriculum and materials
  • Develop and implement assessment metrics to evaluate the effectiveness, access, and outcomes of NSO, NSE, and Pathway Workshops
  • Use data to inform program improvements and ensure alignment with institutional enrollment and student success goals
  • Prepare and present regular enrollment progress reports for the Director with recommended adjustments to strategy or staffing focus
New Student Advising
  • Provide one-on-one new student advising to prospective and newly admitted students in person, by phone, and via Microsoft Teams, assisting with onboarding, educational planning, program and course selection, registration, placement interpretation, college policies and procedures, and referrals to campus resources.
  • Monitor and track student progress using advising technologies, including TargetX, Degree Audit, and ctcLink (PeopleSoft)
  • Assist and provide advocacy to students with administrative processes that impact their enrollment¿at Bellevue College
  • Maintain confidential student records and ensure compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Collaboration and Campus Engagement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, or a related field. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in higher education outreach, recruitment, admissions, or a closely related student services role
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership capacity, which may include supervision of staff, student workers, or work study employees; coordination of teams during events; or serving in a lead role on projects or initiatives
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and executing outreach or recruitment events
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with external partners, community organizations, or K-12 institutions
  • Demonstrated experience with Customer Relationship

    Management (CRM) systems or student information systems (e.g., Salesforce, or similar)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as recruitment activities require
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use computers for data entry, web applications, searching the internet, and resolving basic computer issues
  • Valid driver's license, two (2) years of driving experience, and ability to travel for outreach activities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field
  • Experience in a formal supervisory role with direct reports
  • Demonstrated experience developing or contributing to strategic enrollment or outreach plans
  • Demonstrated experience presenting and leading workshops to students, college staff, and faculty
  • Familiarity with community college or transfer student recruitment pipelines
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities preferred, reflecting the needs of the communities we serve
  • Experience with budget tracking or resource management in a higher education setting
