DescriptionReporting to the Senior Director, HR Operations & Total Rewards, the Associate Director, HR Operations is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for designing, scaling, and maintaining core HR operational infrastructure. This role oversees HR systems, process optimization, compliance, and reporting while ensuring data accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory alignment. The Associate Director partners closely with HR leadership, Legal, Finance, Payroll, and external vendors to support a growing workforce and evolving business needs. This role will oversee the HRIS Manager.
This role is based in our Waltham, MA headquarters. Our office-based employees are required to work in the office three (3) days a week.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):- Oversee HR system integrations, ongoing enhancements, and people data governance including defining platform standards and scalability requirements across HR technology platforms, ensuring accurate data entry, reliable internal and external data flows, system interfaces, data feeds, and reporting
- Play a key role in several upcoming HR system implementations including, but not limited to, system design, configuration, data validation, integrations and dual maintenance
- Partner with Payroll, Finance, and IT to support system integrations, audits, and troubleshooting
- Manage testing, documentation, and change management for system updates and releases
- Design, implement, and continuously improve core HR operational processes by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and a positive employee experience
- Build and maintain SOPs, user guides, and process documentation that enable the team to operate consistently and scale effectively as the organization grows
- Lead creation, updates, and ongoing maintenance of HR policies and templates, ensuring alignment with employment laws and organizational practices
- Drive quarterly and annual audits and reporting, including SOX audits, EEO-1 and other compliance reporting
- Direct the selection, delivery, and tracking of compliance training programs to ensure regulatory adherence
- Monitor federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, ensuring HR practices and systems remain compliant
- Oversee all immigration matters in collaboration with Legal and external counsel to ensure compliance and timely processing
Requirements- Requires a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, and a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience
- Experience in a high-growth company with a background in biotech in pre-commercial and commercial phases preferred
- People management experience of 2+ years
- Solid knowledge of Federal and State employment law and current practices and trends
- Demonstrated ability to drive high quality and productivity in HR Operations, ensuring consistency and accuracy of processes, data and systems
- Extensive HRIS experience with implementation experience highly preferred
- Experience with EEO-1 and other compliance reporting
- Ability to exercise good judgment in confidential situations
- Excellent interpersonal/influencing skills, with ability to effectively build relationships and leverage resources within the function and across the organization
- Reliable, self-motivated, team player capable of proactively managing day-to-day responsibilities
