Full Job Description
The Associate Director, FP&A (Commercial Finance), will serve as the strategic finance business partner to Cytokinetics' Commercial organization during the company's transition to a commercial-stage biotechnology company. This role will support financial planning and analysis and own commercial operating expenses and headcount for assigned areas, partnering closely with Sales, Marketing, Patient Treatment Experience, Commercial Operations, Accounting, and Finance leadership. The role will bring financial insight, sound judgment, and proactive business counsel to help Commercial leaders make informed investment and operating decisions. The ideal candidate is an experienced FP&A professional with commercial-stage biotechnology or pharmaceutical experience who can quickly establish credibility, operate independently, and deliver strategic insight that enables informed launch and growth decisions. Key Responsibilities • Serve as the primary finance business partner to assigned Commercial functions, including Sales, Marketing, Patient Treatment Experience, Commercial Operations and Strategy providing financial insight and counsel while partnering with Finance leadership on broader Commercial priorities. • Lead the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range plan for commercial operating expenses and headcount. • Deliver periodic budget-to-actual variance analysis, explaining spend drivers to functional leaders and Finance leadership and recommending actions to improve forecast accuracy and resource allocation. • Provide decision support on commercial investment trade-offs, including field force sizing, promotional and market access investment, launch readiness, and business cases for new indications or projects. Develop analyses and recommendations that enable Commercial and Finance leaders to evaluate risks, opportunities, and trade-offs. • Serve as a trusted advisor to Commercial leaders, independently identifying financial risks and opportunities, challenging assumptions, and translating business priorities into actionable financial recommendations. • Prepare executive-level presentations and analyses for Finance leadership and senior business leaders, including inputs to the Commerial Leadership team, the executive leadership team, and the Board, including inputs to operating expense guidance and earnings materials. • Build scalable planning infrastructure appropriate for a newly commercial company — models, dashboards, planning system reporting, and repeatable close and forecast processes. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline; MBA a plus. • 10+ years of progressive FP&A or corporate finance experience, including commercial finance business partnering. • Commercial-stage biotechnology or pharmaceutical experience. • Demonstrated experience supporting Commercial functions on operating expense and headcount management. • Advanced financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting skills, with the ability to build structure in a rapidly scaling environment. • Strong executive communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior business leaders through data, financial insight, and sound judgment. Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency. • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted tools in daily business processes to accelerate analysis, reporting, and decision support. Preferred • Product launch or first-years-of-commercialization experience at a newly commercial biotech. • Familiarity with specialty pharmacy and specialty distributor channels, Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid rebate programs, 340B, and copay assistance. Location: Based in South San Francisco, CA (Hybrid, 3 days minimum on-site) #LI-HYBRID Pay Range: The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is 200,700-234,150. The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Base salary is just one component of our competitive total compensation package, which includes equity in the form of stock options and/or restricted stock units, comprehensive health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage, 401k retirement benefits with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off.
