What is the Opportunity?

The Corporate Actuarial team plays a critical role in supporting actuarial excellence and strategic initiatives across all lines of RBC Insurance's business. As the Associate Director of Corporate Actuarial, you will provide expertise and support in actuarial assumptions, methodology, external disclosures, and internal management reports under the guidance of the Director, Corporate Actuarial.

What will you do?
  • Review Actuarial Assumptions and Experience Studies: Support the review and validation of actuarial assumptions across portfolios. Assist in coordinating and executing comprehensive experience studies to ensure assumptions remain appropriate and reflect current business experience and economic conditions.
  • Consulting Support on Actuarial Methodology: Provide consulting support on actuarial methodology across assigned insurance portfolios. Support methodology enhancements and improvements that strengthen our actuarial practices and analytical capabilities across portfolio teams.
  • External Disclosures - Quarterly and Year-End: Play a key role in the preparation and delivery of quarterly and year-end external disclosures, including entity financial statements, regulatory disclosures, the Appointed Actuary report, and OSFI Life return. Support the coordination and execution of all disclosure deliverables to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and IFRS 17
    standards. Analyze and explain liability movements for quarterly and annual reporting cycles, including insurance experience impacts, economic experience, and assumption changes. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of all external disclosure materials.
  • Internal Management Reports: Prepare and coordinate internal management reports including CSM (Contractual Service Margin) roll-forward analysis and Risk Adjustment movement analysis. Provide comprehensive explanations of quarterly and year-end movements in key actuarial metrics to support management decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Support Company Strategic Initiatives: Partner with portfolio teams and cross-functional stakeholders to support corporate strategic initiatives through actuarial insights, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Solid Knowledge: Demonstrate solid knowledge of insurance products, features, and risk across business lines (gained through 5+ years of direct or indirect related work experience).
  • Technical Competency: Possess strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to work on complex actuarial projects in a deadline-oriented environment, particularly during quarterly close and year-end reporting periods.
  • Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Maintain working knowledge of IFRS 17 standards, regulatory compliance requirements, process controls, Life Insurance law, underwriting principles, and life insurance taxation.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Support and work effectively with portfolio actuaries and cross-functional teams through effective partnerships, strong communication skills (oral and written), and the ability to adapt to change and competing priorities.


What do you need to succeed?
  • Bachelor's degree (or greater) in Actuarial Science, or relevant field (Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics) with demonstrated actuarial knowledge
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and/or Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) with 5+ years of insurance experience
  • IFRS 17 experience preferred
