Full Job Description
The Role

This is a front-office investment management and origination role on the Capital Markets team. You'll be instrumental in supporting the growth of our Capital Solutions business, underwriting, and financing distributed energy assets, focusing primarily on batteries and microgrids.

This is a hybrid role (with a minimum of 4 days in the office per week) and is based out of our New York City office in the Union Square area.

Key responsibilities:
  • Play a key role in leading the origination, structuring, and management of various debt, tax equity, and tax credit transfer facilities
  • Implementation of new project development and capital markets transactions in the financial model
  • Implementing the relevant terms of the Inflation Reduction Act and the One Big Beautiful Bill Act
  • Manage and train the Capital Markets analyst team
  • Act as a trusted partner to internal and external teams, including legal, accounting, project managers, bankers, tax equity investors, etc.
  • Maintain positive and effective business relationships internally across Scale's broader business
  • Proactively engage with senior leadership on investment issues and business innovation, and their impact on overall business strategy
  • Mentor and teach junior capital markets personnel on various tasks, and delegate appropriately to such juniors


The Ideal Candidate:

For you to be successful in the role, you should have:
  • 5+ years of experience financing or investing in infrastructure or renewable energy projects, including distributed generation
  • 2+ years of experience managing analyst- or associate-level financial professionals in a "deal team" structure.
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering); MBA or CFA preferred
  • Demonstrated financial modeling competency to evaluate different capital structures across the various debt markets (development capital, commercial bank financing, leveraged finance, mezzanine / Holdco debt)
  • Experience negotiating, closing, and documenting debt and tax equity financings
  • Experience developing and auditing complex financial models
  • Experience with project and portfolio M&A execution
  • Demonstrated experience in originating transaction opportunities
  • Working knowledge of off-take arrangements for distributed energy
  • Experience conducting project/portfolio due diligence and managing third-party consultants and transaction counsel
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate information and strategic goals to non-financial people
  • Proactive and forward-thinking attitude, creative problem-solving ability, and the ability to "manage up"
  • Understanding of technical/commercial terms and their impact on projects
