Associate Director, Asset Management

We are looking for an Associate Director, Asset Management, to join our team in Boston, MA, USA.

As the Associate Director, Asset Management, you will lead a team of specialists, with the goal of providing transit and railroad agencies with sustainable outcomes, tailored to meet the unique requirements of their asset system. To be successful, you will have an in-depth understanding of the wider railroad and/or transit system which enables you to communicate effectively, and with confidence about industry best practices.

You will be able to demonstrate an ability to analyze complex asset and organizational problems, and lead the creation of client focused solutions, reflective of their specific needs by using your depth of industry experience and knowledge of managing assets throughout their full lifecycle, being able to demonstrate an ability to apply tools and techniques which enable asset life to be maximized whilst maintaining appropriate levels of safe asset performance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with client organizations, acting as a strategic advisor on asset management practices and frameworks.
  • Lead the delivery of asset management consulting assignments, acting as Project Manager or technical lead responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and quality of deliverables.
  • Support clients in developing and implementing asset management policies, strategies, and governance frameworks aligned with industry best practice.
  • Lead the development of asset management plans incorporating maintenance, renewal, and capital investment strategies.
  • Advise clients on lifecycle management approaches that optimize asset performance, reliability, and long-term value.
  • Support clients in developing asset performance frameworks, KPIs, and reporting structures to inform decision-making and investment planning.
  • Provide guidance on asset management information systems, including selection, implementation, and optimization of Enterprise Asset Management Systems (EAMS).
  • Conduct asset management maturity assessments and develop improvement roadmaps for transit and railroad agencies.
  • Support clients in the implementation of improvement initiatives, including change management activities such as development of training materials, delivery of training sessions, and providing practical on-site mentoring to support adoption of new processes, standards, and ways of working.
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposals, client engagement, and identification of new opportunities.
  • Mentor and support junior consultants, contributing to NRC's technical capability and knowledge sharing.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for asset management and maintenance activities in North America.

Job Skills, Experience & Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), or equivalent professional registration.
  • Membership in a relevant professional organization (e.g., PWI, ICE, IAM, IRSE, ASCE, AREMA, APTA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in railway or transit asset management environments.
  • Experience developing asset management strategies, policies, or frameworks for infrastructure organizations.
  • Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management including maintenance, renewal, and capital investment planning.
  • Experience supporting organizations in improving asset performance, reliability, and long-term asset value.
  • Experience working with and interpreting asset data, performance metrics, and decision-support tools to inform investment prioritization.
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Asset Management Systems (e.g., Maximo, Ellipse, Trapeze) and asset information management practices.
  • Ability to analyze complex organizational or asset management challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience engaging and influencing stakeholders across operational, engineering, and executive levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of reports, strategies, and presentations.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55000 asset management standards.

Desirable

  • Experience working with transit agencies or railroad operators in North America.
  • Experience undertaking asset management maturity assessments.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of asset management systems or asset data governance frameworks.
  • Postgraduate qualification in asset management, engineering management, or a related field.
