Full Job Description
The Associate Dean of Students for Student Success provides visionary leadership for the Center for Student Success - an integrated hub for student support, outreach and coordination - and serves as deputy and designee to the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students as needed. They serve as senior strategist and institutional partner in advancing student retention, wellbeing, and achievement and ensures that students experiencing barriers to success receive timely, coordinated support across class years.

This is a full time, benefits eligible, salaried position with a hiring range of $77,215-86,867 per year. This role is based onsite in Middlebury, VT.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall vision, direction, leadership, and supervision for the Center for Student Success.
  • Directly supervise five (4) Assistant Deans for Student Success, the Assistant Dean for Academic Success, and the Center's Operations Manager.
  • Implement regular assessment of Center policies, processes, and programming to ensure the Center is aligned with institutional goals and student needs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Middlebury and the Wily Foundation; supervise the Wily Scholar Network Coach and provide support for recommending students to the foundation to be considered as scholars.
  • Serve on the college's Care Team, Returns Committee, and represent the Center on other institutional committees or working groups related to student success, academic progress, wellness, and retention.
  • Provide leadership during campus emergencies and student crises and serve as part of the college's Administrator on Call rotation.
  • Maintain familiarity with Maxient (and other appropriate software), and provide guidance to Center staff on effective and ethical case documentation and records management practices.
  • Manage a caseload of students, responding to a wide range of academic, personal, and transitional challenges, including, but not limited to academic excuses, Incomplete requests, requests for non-clinical case management, and general student support and advising.
  • Build strong working relationships with faculty, academic advisors, residential life staff, and other student-facing departments (e.g. CHW, CTLR, CCI, DRC, etc) to create seamless systems of communication and support for students.


Requirements
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or closely related field required.
  • Demonstrated experience in case management, academic advising, care coordination or crisis response within a higher education setting
  • Significant experience in staff supervision and development
  • Demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to build teams, manage change, and communicate effectively
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters
  • Experience using data to guide decision making and assess program impact
  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs or related fields, including supervisory experience


Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Regular office environment
  • Ability to respond to on-call situations in all campus locations
  • Some late night and weekend work required
  • Must live within 45 minutes of campus or be willing to relocate
