Overview

Position Summary:

As an Associate Data Engineer, you will support the development and upkeep of data pipelines for our analytics and data science teams. With guidance from senior engineers, you’ll help ingest and transform data from internal and external sources, assist with testing and monitoring data infrastructure, and perform basic data quality and documentation tasks across the organization.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$76,829 to $142,213 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$69,845 to $129,284 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$62,860 to $116,356 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

 

In CA: Typical hiring range is $98,569 to $136,901

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Assist in building and maintaining reliable batch data pipelines on AWS and Snowflake using SQL and Python, following established patterns and templates.
  • Help implement data ingestion from structured sources; support work with semi/unstructured data with guidance.
  • Monitor scheduled jobs, troubleshoot basic data load issues, and escalate when needed.
  • Perform routine data quality checks, profiling, cleansing, normalization, and basic hashing/tokenization per standards.
  • Create and maintain tables, views, and simple data models; contribute to data dictionaries and documentation.
  • Write basic queries to support analysts and data scientists; validate outputs against source data.
  • Participate in code reviews; use version control (Git) and follow CI/CD, security, and privacy best practices.
  • Collaborate with analytics, data science, and engineering teams to understand data needs and deliver small enhancements.
  • Support data housekeeping tasks (e.g., partition management, cost/performance hygiene) under mentorship.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or related field

Experience:

  • Completion of the Summer 2026 Internship at Mercury Insurance
  • 1 or more years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, and/or data science
