Overview

Position Summary:

This role is intended to modernize and scale actuarial tooling by bringing together actuarial insight, product thinking, and application development. Success in this position will create a more connected ecosystem of tools and dashboards that improve data access, tracking, reporting, and decision-making for actuarial teams.

 

The Senior Actuarial Solutions Engineer will partner closely with actuaries, Product, R&D, Analytics, and engineering partners to design and build tools that help actuaries work more efficiently and make better decisions. This role will create a connected suite of applications and dashboards that improve how actuarial data is pulled, synced, analyzed, tracked over time, and published for business use. The role combines actuarial tool design and data analysis responsibilities with solution engineering, systems thinking, technical documentation, and implementation support responsibilities.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$83,670 to $161,815 (NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$76,064 to $147,104 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$68,457 to $132,394 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

 

In CA: Typical hiring range is $110,468 to $153,428

 

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

 

 Product and Application Development

  • Design, build, and enhance internal web applications and related tooling that support actuarial workflows, ratemaking, reserving, projections, monitoring, and decision support.
  • Develop a suite of connected products that work together across dashboards, data sources, and reporting outputs to give actuaries better visibility into trends and performance over time.
  • Create scalable approaches for retrieving, validating, transforming, and presenting premium, loss, catastrophe, and related actuarial data for internal users.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate actuarial and business needs into practical technical solutions, interfaces, workflows, and implementation plans.

Solution Design and Cross-Functional Delivery

  • Develop a strong understanding of end-to-end business flows, system dependencies, data mappings, and supporting platforms involved in actuarial and product workflows.
  • Support software and solution design across multiple systems, including component interactions, APIs, data structures, integrations, and rollout planning.
  • Coordinate implementation tasks across partner teams, clarify requirements, identify dependencies, and help ensure high-quality delivery of prioritized features and enhancements.
  • Assist with production readiness activities such as scripting, configuration, metric and log review, and handoff support where needed.

Analysis, Reporting, and Business Partnership

  • Perform analysis that helps improve pricing, product performance, monitoring, and next-generation insurance product development.
  • Support actuarial teams with quarterly and ad hoc analyses, rate change support, and insight generation tied to growth and profitability objectives.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting outputs that make it easier to monitor indications, projections, trends, and other key business metrics.

Documentation, Enablement, and Team Leadership

  • Create and maintain clear technical and business documentation, knowledge bases, flow diagrams, and solution artifacts so teams can effectively support and scale the applications over time.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the solution space by educating partners, clarifying design decisions, and reviewing implementation deliverables for completeness and quality.
  • Lead small to moderate scope projects independently and help shape future direction for actuarial tooling and workflow improvement.
  • Over time, help build and mentor a small team supporting this product suite, with an initial expectation to grow the function to approximately two direct reports.

 

Qualifications

Education:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or another related STEM field OR equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience:

 Minimum:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience across actuarial analytics, insurance technology, solution engineering, product tooling, or a closely related area.
  • Prior experience in the P&C insurance industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience building internal tools, web applications, dashboards, or workflow systems for analytical or business users preferred.
  • Experience working with actuarial, analytics, product, and engineering stakeholders in a cross-functional environment preferred.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Python, C++/Rust

Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum:

  • Strong understanding of P&C insurance concepts, business processes, ratemaking, reserving, projections, and actuarial workflows.
  • Experience working with large datasets and turning data into actionable tools, monitoring, and decision support.
  • Proficiency with SQL and comfort working with APIs, JSON, XML, databases, and system integrations.
  • Familiarity with statistical or analytical tools and concepts used in actuarial environments.
  • Strong technical analysis, systems thinking, and solution design capabilities across multiple applications and dependencies.
  • Ability to document complex workflows using tools such as Confluence, Jira, Miro, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, comfort with ambiguity, and a passion for building tools that improve how work gets done.
  • Basic to strong understanding of web applications, object-oriented concepts, and modern service-based architectures preferred.
