Description
Associate Civil Engineer Design Department of Public WorksUnder general supervision, prepares civil engineering designs and specifications for the more difficult and less routine phases of major municipal engineering projects.

Examples of Duties

1.Analyzes project scope.
2.Reviews and evaluates field conditions and data.
3.Develops and designs engineering solutions.
4.Manages preparation of engineering construction plans.
5.Ensures construction is in conformance with plans, specifications, budget, codes and applicable standards.
6.Manages and interprets construction projects and plans.
7.Creates project documents.
8.Prepares and maintains records and reports.
9.Oversees, supervises, and inspects work of contractors or other city workforce, as needed.
10.Manages and supervises inspectors and other staff assigned to projects.
11.Determines work priorities.
12.Reviews work prepared by other team members.
13.Instructs, counsels, mentors, and advises project team and subordinates on assignments and difficult tasks to see that work is performed satisfactorily to meet expected standards.
14.Consults with supervisor on work assignments and personnel matters such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions and grievances.
15.Initiates and directs training of subordinates and colleagues.
16.Represents the department/division with individual or groups of citizens, public agencies or with private groups.
17.Prepares and evaluates requests for proposal for consultant services, specialized services and other material used by the department/division.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Completion of some coursework in construction management is preferred.
Three years of experience in designing and preparing specifications for civil engineering projects. One year of experience in civil engineering field work is preferred.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
- At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or

- At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
