SUMMARY

This is an Administrative level position. Directly responsible for the security and operational maintenance of the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF). Assumes command of the Facility in the absence of the Warden. Responsible for the implementation of Federal, State
and Local Laws and regulations pertinent to the operation of the Correctional Facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist the Warden and Deputy Warden in the administration of the Facility.
• Responsible for the establishing, reviewing and implementation of correctional policies
regarding health/safety and welfare of inmates and staff
• Responsible to write, review and implement uniform policies, procedures and operational
guidelines for the efficient and organized operation of MCCF. A clear and defined chain
of command will be established
• Responsible for to administer all training and professional development of the
correctional staff
• Ensure that the programs are in place to provide quality, professional training in all
phases of career development to the correctional staff.
• Administer the inmate programs relating to custody operations.
• Responsible to ensure that all inmates are housed in accordance with all applicable
guidelines and regulations. Further, custody/security staff operations will be
administered seven days (7) per week for optimum operations. Communication will be
established and maintained with related Criminal Justice Agencies for sharing of
resources, intelligence and information.
• Provide direct supervision of Department Heads as listed in organizational chart. This
position will serve as the appeal level for the inmate disciplinary process. Will
participate in budget planning and operations. Assist the Warden in planning and
developing Facility Policies.
• Responsible for coordinating custody related matters between Federal, State, County and
Local Correctional and Law Enforcement Agencies. A good rapport must be established
with Department Heads of all agencies to insure smooth transition of persons and transfer
of information from one agency to another.
• Review interviews, background, checks, and sentencing sheets pertaining to the
Community Corrections/Community Service Program candidates. Extensive
communication with the Sentencing Judge may be necessary. After reviewing all
reasonable available data, a recommendation is made to the Court.
• Coordinate all training needs for custody staff.
• Coordinate and communicate with the Warden and Assistant Warden-Administration on
staff, training equipment and operational and emergency needs.
• Coordinate staff committees related to custody and security.
• The Assistant Warden will maintain availability and timely responses to all inquiries
related to the function, operation, staff and inmates in regards to all custody/security
matters. An ongoing program of speaking engagements to civic and community groups
will be available upon request. Tours of the Facility will be available to organizations,
groups and students within policy limitations.
• Maintains financial accountability/manages the yearly budget for the Correctional
Facility and the Community Corrections Program.
• The Assistant Warden will be responsible to prepare all Emergency Planning Documents
and insure that staff are trained to implement established plans.
• Maintains Community Service Programs for the population.
• Administrative Treatment/Administration Operational Responsibility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must

• The Assistant Warden should possess an Associate's Degree and have a minimum of 15
years correctional experience in a variety of positions. Extensive job experience through
all ranks of corrections is essential.
• Experience and exposure in all facets of Facility Operation is a must.
• Knowledge of Correctional Law, Policies, Standards and Accepted Practices is
imperative.
• Technically competent in acceptable and approved life safety equipment.
• Knowledge of weapons used in the possible application of lethal or deadly force is
needed.
• Outstanding communication skills, including both verbal and written, and the ability to
address/communicate with a diverse inmate culture is required.
• Must possess a high degree of imagination, ingenuity and the capability for independent
action subject to an ongoing review and monitoring by the Warden.
• Technically competent in the application of a wide range of Correctional and Law
Enforcement Equipment.
• Must be capable of operating Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) systems.
• This position is required to be on call twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a
week.
