Responsibilities

  • Staff and direct administrative personnel effectively.
  • Manage scheduling and training for dispatchers, road supervisors, and maintenance supervisors.
  • Counsel division employees and administer disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Represent the Authority in grievance meetings for employees.
  • Assist in developing and complying with the division operations budget.
  • Conduct investigations on accidents to ensure policy compliance.
  • Respond to passenger inquiries and complaints regarding services, schedules, safety, and relations.
  • Survey new routes and recommend changes to existing schedules.

Job Title: Assistant Vice President of Bus Operations

Department: Operations

General Summary

Under general supervision, the Terminal Manager coordinates and directs all phases of transportation and maintenance activities for the terminal. Responsible for the scheduling, training and supervision of first line supervisory employees and administrative staff; assists in the coordination and training of Fixed Route and Connector Operators.

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates, directs, and supervises the daily transit and maintenance activities of the terminal ensuring that there are appropriate manpower and sufficient coaches available to meet scheduled service requirements.

Oversees the vault house function to ensure proper and secure handling of fare revenues collected through Fixed Route and Connector transit services.

Supervises, staffs and directs administrative staff.

Coordinates, directs and supervises the scheduling and training of dispatchers, road supervisors and maintenance supervisors. Assists in the coordination of scheduling and training of fixed route and connector bus operators.

Counsels division employees and issues discipline as appropriate.

Represents the Authority at first and second step grievance meetings for represented employees.

Assists in the development and compliance of division operations budget.

Investigates accidents to ensure compliance with Authority policies and procedures.

Responds to and investigates passenger inquiries and complaints relating to routes, schedules, safety, and driver/passenger relations.

Surveys new routes and recommends existing schedule changes.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Planning, Public Administration or related field or seven (7) years of progressive experience in transportation management.
  • Five years supervisory experience in transportation and/or maintenance management and schedule preparation.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in the repair of heavy-duty diesel and gasoline powered vehicles.
  • Ability to obtain a Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements within thirty (30) days of appointment.
  • Proficient in the use of Windows-based MS Word and MS Excel applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team leadership and interpersonal skills. • Problem solving and analytical skills.
