Assistant Vice President, VCU Health Strategic Marketing and Integration

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Assistant Vice President for Strategic Marketing and Integration serves as the operating leader for VCU Health Marketing and Communications and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management, coordination, and execution of departmental priorities on behalf of the Associate Vice President.

This position serves as AVP's deputy across VCU Health Marketing and Communications teams, helping drive execution, alignment, and integration of enterprise priorities while providing direct leadership for certain service line marketing and selected growth-oriented marketing functions, including digital strategy and digital experience as assigned.

The Assistant Vice President translates strategic priorities into actionable plans, ensures accountability for results, leads cross-functional coordination among department leaders, and proactively addresses organizational challenges to maintain momentum on enterprise objectives.

The Assistant Vice President provides day-to-day leadership of departmental operations, ensuring consistent execution, organizational effectiveness, and alignment across assigned teams and functions.

Core Responsibilities:

Marketing and Communications Integration

  • Provides day-to-day operational leadership for VCU Health Marketing and Communications, ensuring effective coordination, prioritization, and execution across assigned teams and functions.
  • Exercises delegated authority to make operational decisions, resolve issues, manage competing priorities, and remove barriers that may impede progress toward departmental and organizational goals.
  • Leads regular leadership team coordination, drives accountability for commitments and deliverables, monitors organizational performance, and serves as the primary escalation point for operational matters requiring executive attention.
  • Partners with departmental leaders to align resources, balance workloads, manage risks, and ensure seamless execution of enterprise initiatives.

Service Line Marketing and Growth Leadership

  • Provides leadership and oversight for key service line marketing across VCU Health, ensuring marketing strategies support organizational growth priorities, patient acquisition, provider engagement, and market differentiation.
  • Develops marketing frameworks, planning processes, and performance standards that strengthen service line marketing capabilities while ensuring alignment with enterprise brand and business objectives. Builds a high-performing service line marketing function through coaching, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Partners with clinical, operational, and physician leadership to establish marketing priorities that support growth, access, reputation, and strategic business objectives.

Digital Strategy, Innovation, and Consumer Experience

  • Provides leadership and oversight for digital marketing and digital experience initiatives, including digital platforms, consumer engagement strategies, websites, digital optimization, and emerging technologies, as assigned.
  • Partners with digital leaders and key organizational stakeholders to advance digital capabilities that improve consumer experiences, strengthen market competitiveness, and support enterprise growth objectives.
  • Supports the ongoing maturation of digital strategy and innovation efforts across VCU Health while ensuring alignment with broader enterprise marketing and communications priorities.

Planning and Resource Alignment

  • Partners with the AVP on prioritization, resource allocation, annual goal setting, and enterprise initiative implementation.
  • Contributes to departmental budget planning, vendor management, resource prioritization, and performance evaluation processes to ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

Leadership Development and Organizational Capability Building

  • Provides direct leadership to select teams and leaders while contributing to broader EMC leadership development efforts.
  • Builds organizational capabilities through coaching, mentorship, succession planning, talent development, and implementation of best practices. Supports the development of future marketing and communications leaders and helps ensure EMC remains positioned for long-term success.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent professional experience in communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Progressive leadership and/or management experience in healthcare, higher education, or similarly scaled organizations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in marketing, communications, digital strategy, service line marketing, or related disciplines within a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead assigned teams and influence cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.
  • Experience developing integrated marketing strategies that support organizational growth, reputation, access, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, collaboration, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic health system, integrated health system, university, or similarly complex enterprise organization.
  • Demonstrated success building or maturing service line marketing capabilities and team structures.
  • Experience advancing digital strategy, consumer experience, marketing analytics, campaign performance, and/or digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience contributing to resource planning, budget development, vendor management, and performance measurement.

Salary Range: $140,000 - $190,000, based on experience
