Responsibilities
The Assistant Vice President, Claims is responsible for managing a complex portfolio of reinsurance claims, influencing business outcomes, and driving operational excellence while partnering across functions and with external stakeholders.
• Provide strategic oversight and management of complex reinsurance claims across multiple lines of business, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent resolution• Analyze and interpret treaty reinsurance contracts and provide coverage determinations• Exercise sound judgment in claim evaluation, coverage analysis, and reserving within delegated authority• Serve as a senior technical expert on reinsurance coverage, allocation, and claim strategy• Collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, finance, and senior leadership to evaluate emerging trends, portfolio exposures, and business impact• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, cedents, and external partners to support effective communication and claim outcomes• Conduct cedent audits to assess claim handling quality, contractual compliance, and operational effectiveness• Prepare and deliver high-quality analysis and reporting on large losses and key exposures, providing clear and actionable insights
Qualifications
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of reinsurance claims experience, including expertise across multiple lines of business, with strong knowledge of Casualty and Professional Liability lines of business• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and manage complex claim scenarios using advanced analytical and critical-thinking skills• Strong command of treaty language, with the ability to interpret coverage, identify exposures, and guide strategic decisions• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues to senior leadership• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism• High degree of professionalism, accountability, integrity, and sound judgment• Proficiency with claims management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications• Willingness to travel domestically as business needs require
Education Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree required• J.D., CPCU, ARe, or other insurance/reinsurance industry designations are strongly preferred
