Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus 6 months relevant experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire. Responsibilities for this Position
ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:
As an Assistant Team Lead for the Cyber Team, you'll serve as a key technical and organizational leader within a cross-functional team responsible for developing and delivering cybersecurity software solutions for the US Navy submarine and surface fleet. In this role, you will support the Team Lead in guiding the team's day-to-day technical execution, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the successful delivery of cybersecurity capabilities.
This position blends hands-on technical contribution with emerging leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for a seasoned engineer ready to take the next step in their career.

- Develop new software components in Java, C, C++, and Python to meet program cybersecurity requirements
- Integrate COTS tools, including open-source products and API-driven integration efforts
- Containerize existing applications and deploy them using a tool like Docker or Podman
- Build multi-tier software solutions, including database design and integration, identification and authentication, and data capture
- Perform thorough unit testing of software components to prepare for integration in a larger system
- Conduct software component integration to ensure end-to-end system functionality prior to formal testing
- Assist the Cyber Team Lead in coordinating daily task assignments, tracking progress against program milestones, and identifying and resolving blockers for team members
- Support the development and maintenance of team schedules, including coordinating on-site lab and shipboard availability across team members
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the Cyber Team in the absence of the Team Lead
- Research, identify, and evaluate new cybersecurity technologies for adoption by the Navy
- Participate in various technical and program meetings on a weekly basis with both internal and external professionals
What sets you apart:
- Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including configuration management, good coding practices, and experience in writing, testing, and deploying production-quality software
- Software development experience using Java (JAVAFX), Spring, C/C++, Python, and other languages in a Linux environment
- Knowledge of and experience using Linux (basic OS comprehension and basic shell scripting), preferably Red Hat or derivatives
- Knowledge of containerization technologies on Linux OS (Docker, Podman, k8s, RKE2)
- Experience with open-source software and custom software, as well as integration between software applications using middle tier integration and data-driven models
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices
- Knowledge of Agile/DevOPs methodologies
- Technical problem-solving ability for large and complex software systems
- Demonstrates the ability to mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and uphold team coding standards and security best practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interface with program management, Navy customers, and cross-functional engineering teams
