Posting Details

The Assistant Surveyor I is the first role in a series of jobs performing tasks and progressive project duties in preparation of certification and/or licensure. This role is entry-level in nature as the tasks and duties performed are directed by a more senior member of the project team or licensed surveyor. This role is focused on learning and performing survey tasks repetitively to develop proficiency. This position is perfect for new Geomatics graduates - come join us!

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists in the preparation of project deliverables, preparation of field packages for the field crews, and processing of raw data from the field; provides quality checks
  • Completes work tasks on time and within budget to a quality standard as determined by supervisor
  • Provides clear and effective communication with regards to project instruction to field and office team members as directed; updates supervisor and project team on status of assigned work regularly
  • Uses survey CADD software to assist in preparation of mapping plats, maps, descriptions, ALTA surveys and other deliverables, Topographic Mapping, DTM's, Point Databases, and calculations for field crews
  • Assists in drafting legal descriptions and other survey documents
  • Reviews maps and deeds necessary for accurate property descriptions
  • Researches property information for licensed surveyors
  • Generates records requests for utility information and maps existing utilities
  • Reviews and reduces topographic and staking field data
  • Provides support as directed related to storage, transportation, assembly, operation, and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicles
  • Engages in formal and practical learning and training opportunities to actively further individual professional development and career growth

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4-6+ years of relevant survey experience, or a bachelor's degree with a survey or drafting emphasis and 0-2+ years of relevant survey experience, or equivalent combination of formal learning and practical experience where a BS is not obtained
  • LSIT preferred
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Working knowledge in survey drafting software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, and TopoDOT
  • Working knowledge of survey calculations, principles, terms, and deliverables
  • Basic knowledge of survey processing software such as Trimble Business Center (TBC)
  • Basic knowledge of survey regulations, laws, and boundary resolution
  • Basic knowledge of field equipment and techniques
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal skills
  • Ability to multi- task and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Ability to work independently, read and review maps, reports, and legal descriptions as well as laws, rules, and regulations, and analyze data
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
