The Assistant Safety Manager supports Columbia Construction's commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment by assisting with the implementation of the company's safety programs across active construction projects. Working closely with Safety Managers, Project Teams, and Trade Partners, this role helps promote a proactive safety culture while supporting compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements.
This is a field-based position that provides hands-on experience in commercial construction safety. The Assistant Safety Manager maintains an active presence on project sites, assists with safety inspections, documentation, training, and communication, and works collaboratively with project teams to identify and address potential hazards before incidents occur.

Key ResponsibilitiesSafety Operations & Field Support- Support the implementation of Columbia Construction's safety programs and initiatives on assigned projects.
- Maintain an active presence on construction sites to observe work activities and reinforce safe work practices.
- Assist Safety Managers in identifying potential hazards and communicating corrective actions with project teams.
- Support daily safety activities and help maintain compliance with company policies and project-specific safety requirements.
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel to promote a strong safety culture.
Safety Documentation & Reporting- Assist with maintaining safety documentation, including inspections, observations, incident reports, and corrective action tracking.
- Utilize company safety software to accurately document field activities and safety performance.
- Help ensure project safety records remain organized, complete, and up to date.
- Support reporting efforts by collecting and maintaining safety-related data.
Regulatory Compliance- Assist in promoting compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client safety requirements.
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable OSHA standards and construction safety best practices.
- Participate in jobsite inspections and support project teams in maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Assist Safety Managers with preparing documentation for audits and inspections.
Trade Partner Engagement- Build positive working relationships with trade partners while reinforcing Columbia Construction's safety expectations.
- Assist in communicating safety requirements and promoting safe work practices throughout the project.
- Support ongoing communication between trade partners and project teams regarding safety concerns and corrective actions.
- Encourage collaboration to maintain safe and productive job sites.
Safety Training & Communication- Assist with employee safety orientations and project-specific safety meetings.
- Support toolbox talks and other safety communication initiatives.
- Promote safety awareness through regular interaction with project teams and field personnel.
- Demonstrate and reinforce Columbia's commitment to safety and The Columbia Way.
Requirements
Required- Relevant education in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Basic understanding of construction safety principles and jobsite operations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to identify potential safety concerns and communicate effectively with project teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn company safety software.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel between project locations.
Preferred- 2-4 years of experience
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- Experience supporting safety efforts within the commercial construction or AEC industry.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and construction safety best practices.
