Job Summary

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is a core team member responsible for managing project change orders, subcontractor coordination, and project documentation with a high level of independence and accountability. The APM understands the financial, administrative, and logistical elements of construction and supports both internal teams and client-facing communications.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead the preparation of Change Orders from inception to PO issuance, including detailed pricing review and subcontractor negotiation.
  • Fully level subcontractor proposals and scopes of work, flagging any discrepancies or risks.
  • Manage procurement timelines and coordination of long-lead items.
  • Maintain ownership of the project submittal log and escalation of critical items.
  • Understand, update, and track Schedule of Events (SOE) and project milestones.
  • Work directly with the Superintendent to establish the Subcontractor Build Schedule.
  • Take lead on the project financial close-out process, including reconciliation of POs, billing, and retention.
  • Proactively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including leading subcontractor meetings when needed.
  • Identify and escalate potential scope or financial risks; contribute to resolution strategies.
  • Mentor and support Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.


Qualifications and Skills
  • Proficient to advanced knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and project logistics.
  • Solid understanding of subcontract scopes, sequencing, and project budget impacts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore, MS Project; working knowledge of Timberline.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and lead through challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and detail level to audience.

Salary Information
  • To the extent this position is performed in California, the annual salary range for this role is $75,000 - $110,000.
