Assistant Project Manager - Civil

Location: Leesburg, VA

Starting Salary: $73,000+ annually (higher based on experience)
Position Summary

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager - Civil to support the successful planning, execution, and completion of commercial and institutional construction projects. This role is responsible for assisting with all phases of project management, from estimating and scheduling through construction, documentation, and project closeout.

The ideal candidate has experience working for a commercial or civil general contractor, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality, safety, and schedule objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing construction projects throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Create, update, and maintain project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, schedules, and project logs.
  • Support project estimating by performing quantity takeoffs and preparing cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, engineers, and project stakeholders to ensure timely project execution.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and progress while identifying and resolving potential issues.
  • Assist with contract administration, subcontract negotiations, and purchase orders.
  • Review shop drawings and construction documents for accuracy and coordination.
  • Support project closeout activities to ensure timely completion.
  • Assist with constructability reviews and value engineering initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, safety standards, and quality control procedures.
  • Prepare project reports and maintain accurate project records using construction management software.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and team meetings.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management with 2-3 years of experience working for a commercial, industrial, or civil general contractor; OR
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with civil estimating and contracting for a civil general contractor or subcontractor.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and/or self-performed construction work.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and institutional construction methods and site development.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, email, and construction management software.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IDIQ contracts.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Current USACE/NAVFAC CQC certification.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Associate Constructor (AC) credential.

A grace period of up to six months may be provided to obtain required certifications or professional credentials.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders and stairs, and perform site inspections on a regular basis.
