Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Principal, the Assistant Principal for Instruction provides instructional leadership that ensures high levels of teaching and learning for all students. The Assistant Principal works to align curriculum, instruction, and assessment with Georgia Standards of Excellence, supports professional growth of teachers, and advances the school's continuous improvement efforts. This position emphasizes instructional leadership as defined in the Georgia Leader Keys Effectiveness System (LKES).

Reports to the High School Principal

Supervises
  • Teachers, instructional staff, and support personnel as assigned

Essential Functions
  • Leads the development, implementation, and monitoring of curriculum and instructional programs to improve student learning.
  • Uses assessment data to inform instructional planning, monitor student progress, and adjust programs as needed.
  • Supervises and evaluates instructional staff in accordance with GaLEADS to ensure effective instructional practices.
  • Provides coaching and professional learning opportunities to support teacher growth and effectiveness.
  • Collaborates in writing, monitoring, and evaluating the school's Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Aligns instructional initiatives with district strategic goals and accountability measures.
    Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders to promote instructional priorities.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration, equity, and high expectations.
  • Assists with operational and administrative responsibilities, ensuring that the learning environment remains safe, supportive, and conducive to instruction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes
  • Knowledge of curriculum design, instructional frameworks, and assessment strategies aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence.
  • Understanding of Georgia Department of Education accountability requirements and the GaLeads evaluation systems.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field.
  • Valid Georgia Professional Leadership Certification (L-5 or higher) issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
  • Minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience at the secondary level (9 12).
  • Demonstrated experience in instructional leadership, curriculum planning, and assessment practices.
  • Proven record of improving student achievement and supporting teacher effectiveness.
  • Prior leadership experience in a school setting is preferred (department chair, instructional coach, assistant principal, etc.).

210 Day Contract

Placement on the DCS Salary Schedule based on GaPSC certification and verified years of experience
