SALARY (MIN-MAX) $69,258 - $105,962
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The position is responsible for assisting the school principal in the coordination, supervision and management of the school program and operation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Required:
- Master's Degree in education administration; eligibility for Virginia Post Graduate license with appropriate administration endorsement.
- Preferred
- Extensive administrative and educational experience.
- Experience in teaching and in school administration; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
*A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

- Serves as an assistant to the principal. Provides leadership and direction to the school teachers and support staff.
- Serves as an instructional leader; reviews and analyzes data to lead the school efforts in achieving high academic performance for all students.
- Interprets School Board policy, procedure and guidelines to parents and public. Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statute, policy and guidelines related to public schools and in particular the operation of programs for the academically talented and special education. Assists principal in directing full complement of extracurricular programs to include athletic, performing arts, and academic activities.
- Assists the principal in determining staffing needs, recommending staffing changes, and participation in the recruitment, selection, and assignment of the school staff with the Director of Instruction and the Director of Human Resources.
- Assists in budget preparation and monitoring of school and activity fund budgets.
- May represent school at meetings, conferences, hearings, and other public forums; gathers citizen and parental input.
- Assist the principal in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented collaborative learning community.
- Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
- Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
- Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
- Ensure implementation of the Nottoway County Public Schools approved curriculum.
- Assist in coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other school support services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body.
- Serve, with parents, faculty, and student groups as requested, in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
- Identify the special needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school system specialists as required.
- Supervise teachers and departments as assigned by the principal.
- Explain and interpret division-wide curriculum/instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents, pupils, and the community.
- Assist teachers in evaluating methods and materials and developing effective learning plans and classroom management techniques.
- Perform related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations and School Board policies and procedures ; to plan, organize and administer a public school and direct and evaluate a diversified professional staff. Demonstrated abilities in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, long range planning and forecasting and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Considerable knowledge of the principles, concepts and methodologies of school administration; of instructional program planning; of child growth and development, total school operation and group dynamics and of related state and federal regulations.
REPORT PREPARATION: Develops and submits written reports regarding status of any of the aforementioned specific job functions.
EQUIPMENT OPERATION: Uses a personal computer, chromebook and/or laptop, standard office equipment, and other equipment related to the assigned area. Uses various software programs to support financial forecasting, performing calculations, and other financial projections and processes as well as word processing and presentation creation.
CONTACTS: Contacts are made at all levels within and outside the school system and require the handling of highly sensitive information with the general public.
DECISION MAKING: Responsible for independent decision making, based upon professional judgment. Decisions impact the entire school division and extend into the community.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone and to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; to hear, understand speech, and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, crawl, walk, push, pull, and reach overhead.
