Cleveland Clinic's G90 Urology/Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit is dedicated to the care of post-operative urology and overflow surgical patients and focuses on pain control, return of bowel and bladder function, DVT prevention and ambulation. Patients in this unit range in age from young adult to geriatric, however, the most common patient population is approximately 65 years old. Some of the primary procedures performed on this unit include partial nephrectomy, radical nephrectomy, radical prostatectomy, urolithiasis, and cystectomy with continent/incontinent urinary diversion.

A caregiver in this position works nights| 7:00pm-7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit staff and across departments to support patient care


  • Ensure continuity of care between shifts; coordinates admissions, discharges, transfers, and daily operations


  • Review major operational and patient care issues with Nurse Managers


  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluation of nursing and patient care staff


  • Counsel staff on performance, initiates corrective actions, and monitors attendance


  • Escalate significant clinical or performance concerns to the Nurse Manager


  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, and performance appraisals


  • Monitor adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines


  • Ensure compliance with Nursing Institute, departmental, and organizational policies and procedures


  • Supervise and participate in daily patient care delivery


  • Develop staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts


  • Support quality improvement, outcomes research, and committee participation


  • Assist with orientation, continuing education, and in-service programs


  • Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing


  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)


  • Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN)


  • Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification must be presented upon hire


  • If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment


  • 2 years recent clinical nurse experience


Physical Requirements:
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.


Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
