Full Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Managing Attorney (AMA) to support the firm's Dispute Resolution practice by guiding matters from commencement through resolution and ensuring strict compliance with procedural rules, court practices, and deadlines across jurisdictions.

The AMA plays a critical role in mitigating litigation risk by advising on procedural strategy, monitoring filing and calendaring obligations, and leveraging technology to streamline court-facing operations. This position works closely with litigators, the Managing Attorney, and professional staff to support efficient, compliant, and best-in-class dispute resolution practices.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting legal research on procedural and strategic issues arising in federal, state, and alternative dispute forums nationwide
  • Advising attorneys on court procedures, judicial preferences, and best practices
  • Reviewing court submissions for compliance with local rules and standing orders
  • Managing and overseeing calendaring and docketing functions, including identifying deadline-triggering events
  • Tracking and disseminating updates to procedural rules and standing orders
  • Preparing and presenting in-house CLE programs
  • Supervising, training, and mentoring Managing Attorney's Office professional staff
  • Supporting departmental initiatives that enhance efficiency, institutional knowledge, and attorney effectiveness

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of federal and state civil procedure, strong experience with litigation technology and court databases (e.g., PACER, Bloomberg Law, Milana, CourtAlert), and a demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Experience with New York, California, and/or Washington, D.C. courts is preferred.

Qualifications include a JD, active bar membership in good standing in New York or California, and at least three years of experience practicing as a litigator or in a supervisory role within a Managing Attorney's or Clerk's Office.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York and California, Freshfields is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the States of New York and California and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
