Position Title
Assistant Instructor, Mechanical Engineering

Position Summary

BCIT's Mechanical Engineering department within the School of Energy is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Assistant Instructor who is an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with broad practical knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.

The department of Mechanical Engineering at BCIT offers diplomas and an accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering. The primary goal of the programs is to graduate highly-qualified, practical mechanical technologists and engineers who are eligible for professional registration.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant can expect to provide lab and tutorial assistance across a broad range of the mechanical engineering discipline. The applicant must have a strong commitment to teaching and interacting with students, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and an interest in delivering quality curriculum.

The Assistant Instructor may lead labs and tutorials in some of the following areas:
  • Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals (statics, dynamics, strength of materials)
  • Engineering Graphics and CAD
  • Manual and CNC Machining
  • Mechatronics (Automation, Robotics), Microcontrollers, Industrial Control, PLCs


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related credential.
  • Relevant industry experience in an engineering environment.
  • Proficient in engineering computer applications including strong CAD skills.
  • Strong digital literacy skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English Language.
  • Effective presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Machine shop skills are an asset.
  • Instructional experience is an asset.
  • Programming (C/C++/Python) experience is an asset.

Salary Range
Salary Range: $72,334 - $98,815 per annum.

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
