Position Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, the Assistant General Manager (AGM) helps the General Manager by looking after the day-to-day operations, bringing the various business priorities into line and making sure that the service is both safe and efficient. Acts as the General Manager's delegate and heads the organization and takes the necessary operational decisions, promoting a proactive and adaptable atmosphere.

The AGM works with the General Manager to ensure operational objectives align with the company's goals, to foresee any problems beforehand, and to keep the organization moving forward.

The AGM makes decisions in a timely manner within the budgets and policies that have been approved and raises any significant risks or issues to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support development of overall leadership and vision to the company, establishing strategic priorities and growth plans in alignment with shareholder objectives.
  • Support building a high-performance culture based on accountability, safety, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the face of the company with clients, community, regulators, and industry stakeholders when the general Manager is not available.
  • Support driving revenue growth through business development, customer retention, and expansion of service offerings.
  • Help build and manage key client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and service quality.
  • Identify market opportunities, competitive threats, and operational improvements to strengthen the company's market position.
  • Focus on day-to-day operations so the General Manager can create new Business Development opportunities.
  • Assist the General Manager by approving and coding routine expenses
  • Be a second set of eyes and a sounding board on financial analyses and reports
  • Support cost saving and incentive programs by creating capacity for the General Manager.
  • Support the General Manager by overseeing daily operational activities to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance.
  • Assist in maintaining company assets-including fleet, equipment, and facilities-by ensuring preventative maintenance schedules are followed and issues are escalated promptly.
  • Contribute to continuous operational improvements and adoption of best practices across the organization.
  • Help coordinate workforce scheduling, monitor service delivery, and address operational issues as they arise.
  • Help build, develop, and lead a strong management team across operations, sales, HR, and administration.
  • Reinforce clear accountability structures by helping to communicate performance expectations and participating in coaching and development efforts.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and collaborative work environment that aligns with the company's culture of continuous improvement.
  • Assist the General Manager by preparing reporting inputs and supporting the flow of transparent operational and financial information.
  • Support compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Act as a point of contact for routine communications and updates when the General Manager is unavailable.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in waste management, construction, transportation, logistics, industrial services, or another asset-intensive industry.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting operational and financial performance, including exposure to profit-and-loss (P&L) management.
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong relationship-builder, both internally (employees, management team) and externally (clients, regulators, community).
  • Experience in safety-driven, regulated industries would be an asset.
  • Strong business acumen with fluency in operations, finance, sales, and HR.
  • Proven leadership skills: able to inspire, coach, and hold teams accountable.
  • Experience working within safety-driven, environmentally regulated industries is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business management software.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence, with the ability to travel between operating locations as required
  • Familiarity with Yellowknives Dene language, culture, governance, values, and way of life is considered a strong asset.
