Position SummaryThis role is for a position on the Xcel Energy Commercial Projects legal team, which supports the Xcel Energy Corporate Development team. This position focuses on renewable energy projects, power purchase agreements, emerging technology initiatives, and strategic investments and partnerships, and works cross-functionally to structure, negotiate, and execute complex transactions. The role also provides legal counsel to Xcel Energy and its subsidiaries and manages outside counsel. The attorney handles transactional/M&A matters, including document drafting and leading complex, high-impact transactions. Viewed as an expert within the company in designated practice area.
Essential Responsibilities - Provides leadership and counsel to Xcel Energy management on complex legal, business, and strategic matters.
- Serve as transactional counsel, supporting Xcel Energy Corporate Development, advising on strategic renewable energy and emerging technology transactions, power purchase agreements, strategic investments and partnerships, and general transactional matters.
- Draft and negotiate transactional documents related to renewable energy projects (development transfer agreements and build-transfer agreements), purchase power agreements, emerging technology, strategic investments and partnerships, and other general transactional matters.
- Partner cross-functionally across the enterprise to execute transactions aligned with company strategy.
- Identify, assess, and communicate legal, regulatory, and commercial risks and provide general transactional and M&A legal support to Xcel Energy and its subsidiaries.
Minimum Requirements - Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice, or able to be licensed to practice on reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe of accepting the position, where the position is located.
- 10+ years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience.
- Leadership experience required.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $170,700.00 to $242,367.00 per year
