JOB DESCRIPTION

As an Employment Counsel on the Consumer & Community Bank Legal team, you will oversee a diverse docket of employment cases at various stages, from threatened litigation through trial, across multiple jurisdictions and forums. You will investigate allegations, manage outside counsel, provide strategic risk assessments, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the firm. This role offers the opportunity to become a trusted advisor, delivering legal counsel and strategic advice on employment law matters, preparing and reviewing Human Resources policies and agreements, and collaborating with Human Resources and other colleagues on cross-business workforce projects.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a docket of employment cases from pre-litigation through hearing/trial in various jurisdictions and forums
  • Investigate allegations and oversee outside counsel in employment litigation matters
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and advance the firm’s people strategy by providing strategic legal counsel, risk assessments, and litigation management to internal stakeholders
  • Prepare, review, and update human resources policies, procedures, agreements, and documentation
  • Advise on state and federal employment discrimination statutes and common law employment claims
  • Handle labor and employment issues including performance management, employee discipline, termination, severance, and workplace investigations
  • Counsel on wage and hour issues, workplace accommodations, incentive pay, and protection of intellectual property and confidential information

     

  • Demonstrate a commitment to integrity, fairness, a positive workplace culture and supporting firmwide performance standards 

     

  • Utilize eDiscovery/ESI tools and manage case documentation efficiently
  • Leverage digital solutions, workflow tools and legal technology to drive operational excellence and scale legal support across the Corporate Sector
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other teams on cross-line of business workforce projects

 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required; licensed to practice law and member in good standing in relevant jurisdiction
  • Minimum 3+ years of post-JD recent, relevant, and broad employment litigation experience in a major law firm, large in-house setting, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal employment discrimination statutes and common law employment claims
  • Experience handling a full range of labor and employment issues, including policy development, employment agreements, FLSA, FMLA, wage and hour, workplace accommodations
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage technology and digital tools to deliver legal services at scale, including workflow solutions, document automation, and legal research platforms
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage high volume and balance competing demands
  • Experience developing and maintaining strong client relationships, acting as an effective influencer, and collaborating across teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of eDiscovery/ESI processes
  • High competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and LEXIS/Westlaw

 

 

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • FINRA arbitration experience; Strong knowledge of FINRA licensing and registration issues
  • Experience with nation-wide laws applicable to the enforceability of post-employment restrictions
  • Employment litigation and counseling experience with financial services and/or retail clients
  • Project management skills and background
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as SharePoint and PowerPoint, case management applications, and customer account management applications
  • Experience working on cross-functional workforce projects
  • Ability to travel approximately 10% as required
