Job Summary:

SSAD is responsible for monitoring the day to day activity related to the support entities of the surgical division (SPD and Anesthesia techs). SSAD is responsible for the leadership and accountability of the SPD and surgical support teams and leaders.

SSAD is responsible for overseeing of the support areas (SPD, Anesthesia techs) listed including but limited to staffing, budget compliance, contributing to staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment, coaching and counseling employees on work related performance and assisting in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment

Monitors and ensures adherence to national standards and benchmarks that guide and influence the surgical department inclusive of but not limited to AORN, IAHCSMM, AAMI, AST, TJC and Pennsylvania DOH.

Accountabilities:
• SSAD is responsible to ensure the surgical support teams deliver quality service to physicians, nurses, clinicians, team and support exceptional patient safety, outcomes and customer satisfaction. Ability to lead and manage large teams of direct/indirect staff, team development, team building, coaching and counseling. This includes management of Surgical Support teams practices, systems and services that are evidence based and support the clinical practice of nursing in the Surgical Division.
• Coordinates and manages the daily operation of the support services team members resulting in optimal surgical coordination and process flow; complementing the surgical patient care delivery model. The SSAD is responsible to develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate policies, programs and services related to the assigned surgical support services and functions.
• Responsible for education and in-services of physician offices as it relates to Surgical Services scheduling processes and procedures
• Responsible for incorporation of the PAT scheduling process into the department
• Maintain block time schedule for all Surgical Service areas and provide coverage for scheduling team as needed due to vacations, etc
• The SSAD is responsible for ongoing assessments of the environment, identifying trends and issues, transmitting values, communicating ideas, coaching and mentoring others, managing resources and assuring the team and environment are functioning optimally. Responsible for system maintenance, testing, updating and coordination of the informatics system for Surgical Services.
• Works cohesively and collaboratively with nursing leadership in identifying continuous improvement activities, support service team education needs, identifying performance improvement quality outcomes through routine measurements.
• The SSAD collects comprehensive health data, information and evidence relevant to the surgical setting for making strategic decisions. Assesses the data to determine surgical trends, problems, issues and opportunities for improvement. Coordinates Medical receptionist activities creating a perioperative informatics plan that encompasses strategies, alternatives, accounting, financial and clinical factors while meeting all regulatory requirements. Responsible for Data Analytics in relations to all aspects of Surgical Services.

• SSAD is responsible for monitoring the day to day activity related to the support entities of the surgical division (SPD, ORAs, unit clerks) inventory control and case cart as appropriate. SSAD is responsible for the leadership and accountability of the SPD and surgical support teams and leaders.
• SSAD is responsible for ensuring quality, productivity and labor efficiency and accomplishing strategic goals and operational objectives. Uses informatics decision tools to assist with the identification of problems, issues or opportunities for improvement.
• SSAD is responsible for overseeing the staffing, budget compliance, contributing to staffing decisions such as hiring and terminating employment, coaching and counseling employees on work related performance and assisting in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
• SSAD identifies gaps and ensures adequate training of teams while monitoring and ensuring adequate competencies of all team members and that all compliance, ethical and legal practices are aligned with accreditation/regulatory/government regulations. SSAD leads or supports managers/leads in the teams development and growth.
• The SSAD will model the attitude and culture expected throughout the department and build relationships within the department and throughout the hospital. Promotes a culture of inclusivity and accountability.
• The SSAD supervises managers and leaders in monitoring and ensuring achievement and maintenance of required certifications or competencies of staff.
• Develops and maintains standards in consistent instrument and equipment quality, distribution and availability and compliance with safety and regulatory standards; initiates improvements as necessary.
• Monitors and ensures adherence to national standards and benchmarks that guide and influence the surgical department inclusive of but not limited to AORN, IAHCSMM, AAMI, AST, TJC and New Jersey State DOH.
• Through collaboration with Surgical Services clinical leadership ensures the perioperative informatics plan reflects current clinical and information technology rules, regulations, accreditation requirements and quality standards.
• Designs communication strategies and feedback mechanisms to ensure effective communication and information exchange within areas of coverage and among the entire surgical team.
• Participates in ongoing educational activities related to leadership, management and perioperative services.
• Collects and Analyzes data pertinent to support services (SPD quality data, OR room TOT, regulatory data collection etc.) to identify areas of improvement, current status and ongoing strategic plans.
• Promotes health and workplace safety. Uses regulatory and accreditation standards and evidence based best practices to guide department and implement workplace safety practices.

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree and 5+ years of experience.
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or within 6 months of hire into position.
