Full Job Description
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

To assist in the planning, organization, development and direction of the overall operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing and the Director of Health Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality of care is maintained at all times. Responsible for providing developing, implementing, and facilitating education programs for the Health Services department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility, and as directed by the Director of Nursing or the Health Care Administrator. Additionally, this position serves as the Infection Control Nurse, and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Nurse. Assumes responsibility of MDS for four designated Medicare A beds.

Qualifications:
  • Must be a Registered Nurse in good standing and meet all applicable federal and state licensure requirements or in training to satisfactorily complete the requirements to become a Registered Nurse.
  • Must have previous experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other health care related facility with geriatric experience. A minimum of 5 years of experience is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, management education, and geriatric training.
  • Must be knowledgeable of clinical nursing education requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
  • Must be Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology (SPICE) certified.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical assessment practices and procedures and laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Must be able to assist in planning, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of nursing team members.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the general aging process, rehabilitative and restorative nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age.
  • Must show ability to read, write, and converse in a legible and understandable manner in English.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • This position is considered "Weather Essential". During extreme or severe weather conditions, all
    "weather essential" personnel are expected to make every effort to report work as scheduled. Weather essential personnel are those employees who provide direct patient care, work in Dining Services, and Facilities.
  • Assists with planning, development, organization, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of the Nursing Department, its programs and activities.
  • Partners with the Director of Nursing with supervising the Nursing team, including staffing, work assignments, performance evaluation and improvement, coaching and training, disciplinary actions and investigations, injury reporting, and problem-solving.
  • Assists with development, maintenance, and periodic updates of written nursing policies, procedures, manuals, and objectives. All to be approved by Director of Nursing and Administrator.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of plan of corrective action for deficiencies.
  • Assist with Quality Assurance and Process Improvement program development, implementation, and maintains data accordingly for the department.
  • Assists in planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining resident discharge procedures and plans as needed.
  • Participates in surveys and inspections by government agencies.
  • Consults and creates recommendations to the Administrator regarding the nursing department.
  • Adheres to The Forest at Duke's employment and confidentiality agreements, remains up-to-date on HIPAA training requirements, understands the importance of proper handling and disposal of ePHI, and agrees to follow HIPAA regulations.
  • On-Call rotation with the Director of Nursing and essential staffing as needed.
