Navigator Homes of Martha's Vineyard is seeking an experienced and motivated
Assistant Director of Nursing / Staff Development Coordinator (ADON/SDC) to join our nursing leadership team.
This dual-role position works closely with the Director of Nursing to support the delivery of high-quality resident care, clinical operations, regulatory compliance, nursing leadership, and staff development. The ADON/SDC also leads employee education, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing clinical training to ensure our nursing team has the knowledge and skills necessary to provide exceptional resident-centered care.
The ideal candidate is a strong clinical leader and educator who is organized, collaborative, approachable, and committed to developing and supporting nursing staff.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssistant Director of Nursing Responsibilities- Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing services.
- Supervise nursing staff and provide leadership, coaching, guidance, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, facility policies, and clinical standards.
- Monitor resident care and clinical outcomes and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Support survey preparedness and assist with plans of correction.
- Assist with nursing staffing coordination and clinical coverage as needed.
- Investigate and follow up on incidents, accidents, resident concerns, and clinical issues.
- Support infection prevention, medication management, risk management, and resident safety initiatives.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and resident care planning.
- Promote resident rights, safety, dignity, and quality of life.
- Serve as acting Director of Nursing in the DON's absence, as appropriate.
Staff Development & Education Responsibilities- Coordinate and conduct nursing and clinical components of new employee orientation.
- Develop, schedule, and facilitate ongoing staff education and in-service training.
- Coordinate annual mandatory education and competency assessments.
- Maintain employee training records and competency documentation.
- Provide CNA and nursing staff training, mentoring, and professional development.
- Work collaboratively with department leadership to identify training needs and performance improvement opportunities.
- Ensure required clinical education remains consistent with state, federal, infection control, and facility requirements.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assist with updating education and training materials.
- Support survey readiness and corrective action plans related to staff education and competency.
- Promote employee engagement, professional development, accountability, and a culture of continuous learning.
Qualifications- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing - required.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Long-term care, skilled nursing, senior living, or similar healthcare experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with staff development, clinical education, orientation, or competency training preferred.
- Knowledge of CMS requirements, Massachusetts healthcare regulations, infection control practices, and long-term care operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to coach, educate, and develop clinical staff at varying levels of experience.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Experience with electronic medical records and healthcare software preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic learning/training systems preferred.
