Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Human Resources to help lead HR operations supporting our corporate team and physician practices.

The Assistant Director of Human Resources is a hands-on HR leader responsible for managing and directly performing HR functions across multiple entities and locations. This role serves as a strategic and operational partner to executive leadership, providing sound HR guidance, identifying organizational and compliance risks, and translating business needs into practical HR solutions.

The ideal candidate can move comfortably between the executive table and day-to-day HR operations, demonstrating executive presence, sound judgment, business acumen, and the ability to provide clear recommendations while remaining hands-on in the execution of critical HR functions.

Job Type: Full-time, Direct hire

Pay: $110,000 - 143,000 annually

Hours: Mon-Fri, with flexibility for occasional early-morning, evening, or weekend business needs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manage and directly perform HR functions across multiple entities and locations, including:
  • Full-cycle recruiting and onboarding
  • Payroll and timekeeping administration
  • Benefits and retirement plan administration
  • Leaves of absence, accommodations, and workers' compensation
  • Federal and California HR compliance
  • HR, payroll, benefits, and workers' compensation audits
  • Regulatory reporting and required filings
  • Policy, procedure, and workflow development
  • Employee engagement and training
  • HR reporting, data analysis, and trend identification
  • Partner with executive leadership, physicians, and senior management on workforce strategy, organizational decisions, compliance risk, and complex HR matters, providing clear recommendations and solutions
  • Provide HR guidance and support to employees, managers, physicians, and clients
  • Supervision and development of HR staff
  • Special projects and other HR operational responsibilities as needed
  • Employee relations, investigations, performance management, and corrective action


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • 10-15+ years of progressively responsible, hands-on HR generalist/operations experience, including supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law, wage and hour, benefits, leaves, and employee relations
  • Strong payroll experience, including processing, auditing, reconciliations, and issue resolution
  • Ability to independently manage and perform multiple HR functions in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated executive presence and ability to effectively advise, influence, and communicate with C-suite leaders, physicians, and senior management
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to assess complex HR matters, identify risk, and provide practical recommendations to leadership
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and reporting skills
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now or comparable HRIS/payroll systems
  • Experience with Fidelity Plan Sponsor or similar retirement platforms preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR highly preferred
  • Experience supporting multiple entities, FEINs, and locations
  • Healthcare or healthcare administration experience preferred


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Limited travel outside the Los Angeles area
  • Valid driver's license and required automobile insurance
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Adherence to organizational policies, procedures, attendance, and professional standards


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Primarily desk-based work with frequent computer and phone use
  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to lift or carry office materials up to 15 lbs.
