Title: Assistant Director, Laboratory Services
Department: Laboratory Services
Reports To: Executive Director of Laboratory Services
JOB SUMMARY
Provides leadership and operational support for Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory services under the direction of the Executive Director of Laboratory Services. Assists in overseeing daily laboratory operations, quality management, regulatory compliance, personnel development, budget stewardship, and strategic initiatives to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective laboratory services. Supervises designated laboratory staff, supports performance management and competency assessment activities, and fosters a culture of quality, service excellence, and continuous improvement. Coordinates educational and training programs for laboratory personnel, students, and other healthcare team members.
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of age-dependent expected values and access data reflective of the patients' current status in relation to their age-specific needs.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or one of the natural sciences or equivalent experience required.
Licensure: Current certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, ASCP or equivalent. Must maintain current certification throughout employment at Vitruvian Health. Must meet requirements for Technical Supervisor as specified by CLIA. Must meet applicable State Laws of licensure for clinical laboratories.
Experience: Six years of leadership experience required in a highly complex Laboratory.
Skills: Demonstrates strong leadership, managerial, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with laboratory staff, medical staff, hospital leadership, and other departments. Self-motivated individuals with excellent communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills. Ability to assist in directing laboratory operations, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and effectively manage changing operational needs. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards applicable to laboratory services. Ability to obtain and interpret pertinent information in terms of the patient's age-specific needs. Ability to select appropriate instrumentation, testing methodologies, equipment, and supplies for the age groups served. Demonstrates consistent competency in clinical laboratory practices and the ability to support staff in the delivery of safe, accurate, and timely laboratory services. Ability to mentor, train, and develop laboratory personnel while fostering a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to patients across the lifespan, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Demonstrates knowledge of age-dependent normal values and the ability to assess patient information relative to age-specific needs and clinical conditions. Proficient in computer systems, laboratory information systems (LIS), quality management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
