BASIC PURPOSE Reporting to the Senior Director of IT Security, the Assistant Director of IT Security serves as the lead technical resource in the independent implementation and management of systems that support institutional Information Security objectives. The position assists the Senior Director with the implementation and administration of the IT Security program. The position translates information security strategy as communicated by the Director into system implementations and configurations. Acting as a IT security mentor to junior staff on the team. The position leads assigned information security projects. As directed by the Director, IT Security, the position performs incident response activities.

Flexible work options can be ended at any time by the College, Cabinet, and/or supervisors based on employee performance and/or as institutional needs change.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Lead the configuration and management of information security technology systems such as: threat prevention/detection systems, endpoint security systems (workstation and servers), vulnerability management systems, firewalls, network load balancers, log analysis and alerting systems, network analysis and network access control systems, VPN systems, etc.
- Manage projects related to the implementation of information security technical systems.
- Assist the Senior Director of IT Security with operational aspects of the IT Security team, particularly in the absence of the Senior Director.
- Support the planning and execution of Risk Assessment, Security Audits, Vulnerability and Penetration testing.
- Assists in the review of HECVAT and SOC2 to ensure compliance with third-party risk standards.
- Develop and document scripts, tools, and procedures to automate scans, assessments, and response activities.
- Support stated IT security goals through the proactive research of industry trends, participation in security and technology associations, and achievement of professional certification.
- Participate in or lead incident response activities when related to operational incidents. Participate in system-level incident response when appropriate.
- Train and mentor information security staff and student employees, developing skills in security monitoring, alert triage, incident response, vulnerability assessment, log analysis, and documentation aligned with Information Technology Security Analyst responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Education/Training/Work Experience: - Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field required.
- Approved IT industry certification required.
- Approved industry Security Certification preferred.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of directly relevant experience supporting computer networks and/or computer security systems in a professional setting.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills:- Thorough understanding and experience in networking, firewalls, load balancers, and VPN.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of network security analysis, scanning, and forensics tools.
- Knowledge of data and network security issues, vulnerability management, network security systems monitoring, detection and prevention systems.
- Experience with Linux, Windows and macOS.
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python,KQL etc.).
- Ability to lead projects from inception to completion.
- Foundational cloud knowledge or Azure-specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
- Required to be on call to respond to technical emergencies that disrupt system availability.
- Requires work during non-business hours, evenings, and weekends to apply system updates and patches.
- Highly motivated, focused, and results oriented.
- Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts, and to always maintain confidentiality.
