Full Job Description
The Assistant Director plays a critical role in the fast-paced, high volume BU Law Financial Aid Office which supports a population of 1200 law students. Reporting to the Senior Director, the Assistant Director awards financial aid, counsels prospective and current students as well as alumni, and has principal responsibility for the students in the LLM and other graduate programs in the School of Law. The Assistant Director oversees Federal Work-Study, the BU Law Loan Repayment Assistance Program, study abroad, visiting students, and other special enrollment programs. The Assistant Director plans the schedule of financial literacy events and present workshops on loan repayment and debt management topics for prospective and current students. Additionally, the Assistant Director acts as the primary back-up and supports the Senior Director. The Assistant Director must be self-directed, demonstrate initiative, and take accountability for their development within Law Financial Aid including staying current on all federal policies. The ideal candidate works well as part of a team and enjoys counseling students.
Required Skills
Bachelors degree and 3-5 years of experience required. The successful candidate will have a dedication to providing excellent customer service. Strong analytical skills, effective problem solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an ability to work well in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment are required. This person must be a creative self-starter, have the ability to work with a variety of technologies, enjoy and be capable of extreme attention to detail, and have a proven track record in multi-tasking in an extremely busy work environment. This position requires a high level of professionalism and the independent exercise of good judgment. This person must analyze and interpret complex regulations and policies and financial information to determine the correct and appropriate solution for each student.
