Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, assists the Director in managing and directing the operations of the Finance Department.

Examples of Duties
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
  1. Plan, organize, control and direct the accounting activities and functions of the District; project, monitor, maintain and account for the fiscal health of the District; make presentations to the staff, community and Board. E
  2. Project and supervise the preparation of various District budgets; monitor and revise District budgets following adoption. E
  3. Direct District staff in budget and accounting functions; maintain all accounting records of the District. E
  4. Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates. E
  5. Communicate with other administrators, District personnel and outside organizations to properly manage District activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information; meet with administrators on respective budgets and financial needs. E
  6. Provide technical expertise, information and assistance to the Assistant Superintendent regarding assigned functions; assist as needed in the formulation and development of fiscal policies, procedures and programs. E
  7. Prepare and maintain a variety of State and federal financial reports; prepare various narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to the Finance Department. E
  8. Develop, prepare and monitor all budgets for the District; analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations. E
  9. Attend a variety of meetings to maintain current knowledge of legislation, legal codes and requirements; review changes in school finance; attend workshops and meetings with District, County and State personnel; conduct and facilitate meetings. E

Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration or related field and five years' responsible experience in finance or accounting, including three years in a supervisory capacity. Public school finance and accounting experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING REQUIRED:
- Pass the District's applicable proficiency exam for the job class with a satisfactory score
- After an offer of employment, obtain:
- Criminal Justice and FBI Fingerprint Clearance
- Negative TB test result plus periodic post-employment retest as required (currently every four years)

* INITIAL SALARY PLACEMENT FOR CLASSIFIED MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEES:
Placement of newly appointed management personnel shall typically be Step 1 of the salary range designated for appropriate class. However, the Superintendent (or designee) may authorize a higher step placement up to step six of the appropriate salary range for an especially well-qualified individual or in a job class for which qualified candidates are found to be in short supply.

The duration of the eligibility list is one (1) year unless the list is exhausted or extended by the Personnel Commission.
