About Our OpportunityReporting to the Deputy Superintendent, as the Assistant Deputy Superintendent, you ensure the smooth daily operations of the Correctional facility through the appropriate deployment of Captains and line staff. You provide oversight and direction regarding persons in custody admission and discharge; warrant interpretation; inmate placement; program delivery; facility searches; temporary absences; facility emergency situations.
Primary Accountabilities- liaising with Sheriff Services regarding the transfer of persons in custody; liaising with policing agencies regarding laying potential charges as a result of inmate criminal activity within the facility.
- communicating reportable incidents to Correctional Services Senior Management.
- responsible for the overall administration of the building in the absence of senior management.
- responsible for human resource-related functions, including effective management of Captains and line staff; training; labor relations; recruitment & staffing; attendance management; and performance management.
- ensure compliance with the collective agreement and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
Qualifications and ExperienceTo be considered for this opportunity, you hold a University Degree in a related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a Correctional facility; at least two (2) of which, are at the management level. An acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience, such as work as a Senior Probation Officer, in the Policing or Courts fields or in other areas of Corrections or Criminal Justice, may be considered.
Knowledge of facility operations, including safety/security, case management, offender discipline, crisis management, human resource management and quality assurance and risk management would be an asset. Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Corrections Act, the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Workers Compensation Act and the OH&S Act, and the ability to interpret Collective Agreements would be an asset.

Salary Range: $3,571.99 - $4,465.03 Bi-Weekly
