Full Job Description
Senior-level advanced technical, managerial, and supervisory leadership in directing the activities of technical staff in the coordination of plan review and inspections of commercial and residential construction plans and activities for compliance with the State and County's construction codes, related regulations, and the Building Division's policies and procedures. Accountable for the final building plan review and inspection of complex, unusual permit applications and construction projects and plans submitted for permit approval. This position is responsible for providing continuity of service, interpreting codes, leading coordination activities with senior-level staff for major repeat customers, and resolving complex plan review and inspection situations. Work is performed within the framework provided by construction codes, related regulations, and Building Division policies and procedures. Work is reviewed by the Deputy Building Official through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:
• A Bachelor's Degree in Building Construction, Engineering, Architecture or Fire Administration, or a closely related degree; minimum of six (6) years of combined experience as an Architect, Engineer, Contractor, Inspector, or Superintendent of commercial construction, which includes five (5) years in a supervisory position and two (2) years of experience in commercial/construction plans examining or construction inspections,
OR
• An unrelated Bachelor's Degree; minimum of seven (7) years of combined experience as an Architect, Engineer, Contractor, Inspector, or Superintendent of commercial construction, which includes five (5) years in a supervisory position and two (2) years of experience in commercial/construction plans examining or construction inspections,
OR
• An Associate's Degree in in Building Construction, Engineering, Architecture or Fire Administration, or a closely related degree; minimum of eight (8) years of combined experience as an Architect, Engineer, Contractor, Inspector, or Superintendent of commercial construction, which includes five (5) years in a supervisory position and two (2) years of experience in commercial/construction plans examining or construction inspections,
OR
• Gra duation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of 10 years of combined experience as an Architect, Engineer, Contractor, Inspector, or Superintendent of commercial construction, which includes five (5) years in a supervisory position and two (2) years of experience in commercial/construction plans examining or construction inspections.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Additionally, this position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:
• Four (4) Standard Certifications, including a Plans Examiner and Inspector Certification in Structural, and the remaining two (2) as a Plans Examiner in any of the other categories (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), per Florida Statute 468.
OR
• Four (4) equivalent International Code Council (ICC) or other nationally recognized certifications, and the ability to obtain FS462 (BCAIB) provisional certifications within 90 days and standard certifications within 11 months of hire.
OR
• Current registration in the State of Florida as an Architect or Engineer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
• Certification from the State of Florida as a Building Code Administrator,
• National certification from the ICC as a Certified Building Official (CBO), and
• National certification from the ICC as a Master Code Professional (MCP).
