Full Job Description
Your Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Assistant Controller to join our team. You'll own corporate accounting, technical accounting, and financial reporting while actively transforming how our accounting function operates by leveraging AI to eliminate manual work, surface insights faster, and build processes that scale with Zip's pace.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone excited to build, elevate, and modernize a high-performing accounting organization in a dynamic, fast-scaling environment.

What you'll do
  • Own and manage the accounting close process to public company timelines, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Responsible for GL (close/consolidations), Payroll, Financial Reporting, and Technical Accounting.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a scalable, high-performing team accounting organization, providing guidance and support in their day-to-day responsibilities
  • Implement and continuously improve best-in-class practices and operational competencies
  • Drive the preparation and review of detailed fluctuation analyses, identifying trends, anomalies, and potential risks and opportunities
  • Manage external audit and advisory interactions for your areas, including PBC execution and issue resolution.
  • Partner with Strategic Finance/FP&A to deliver clear narrative on actuals vs. budget/forecast and improve forecast-to-close connectivity.
  • Develop and maintain policies to ensure accurate accounting, financial reporting and reliable internal controls; ensure financial integrity through strong controls.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of the monthly CFO/CAO reporting packages
  • Contribute to broader finance transformation initiatives, including system enhancements, standardization, and designing scalable operating models using an AI-first approach.


What you'll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in high-growth environments
  • Deep technical expertise in U.S. GAAP, with strong judgment in complex accounting areas.
  • Experience using AI tools; whether for research, reporting, or workflow automation.
  • Exceptional ability to interact, communicate, and present complex revenue topics clearly to key cross- functional teams and executive leadership
  • Ability to multitask and maintain organization in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to independently drive complex projects under ambiguity and deliver results.


The salary range for this role is $246,500-$304,500. The salary for this position is determined based on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant experience, education, or particular skills and expertise.
