Responsibilities

Related Companies is seeking an Assistant Controller to support the accounting and financial reporting for its management companies, primarily Related Management Company (RMC) and Related Affordable Management (RAM). Reporting to the Senior Controller, Corporate Accounting this position will oversee key accounting processes, support the development of the accounting team, and participate in business-process and technology initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the accounting associated with RMC, RAM, and related operations.
  • Ensure all business transactions are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Oversee the team's day-to-day accounting activities while maintaining an appropriate balance between operating efficiency and internal controls.
  • Review monthly and quarterly financial results, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant budget-to-actual and period-over-period variances.
  • Assist with consolidation and variance analyses for quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Assist with managing external auditor engagements and completing annual audit requirements.
  • Participate in business-process improvement and technology-integration initiatives.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and day-to-day support to accounting staff.
  • Mentor and develop team members to support their continued growth and advancement.
  • Evaluate accounting processes and team responsibilities and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and manage costs.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and other corporate departments on accounting and reporting matters.
  • Assist with special projects assigned by the Senior Controller, Senior Vice President, and Chief Accounting Officer.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. In addition to a competitive base salary, you will be eligible to receive discretionary bonus incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.

Anticipated base salary range: $125,000-145,000

Actual base salary within the anticipated range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and market factors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • Six or more years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Public accounting experience preferred; experience in real estate or property management is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with close attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior leaders and business partners.
  • Sound professional judgment and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience supervising, mentoring, or developing accounting staff.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards and HFM reporting software is a plus.
