Overview
The Assistant Controller supports the accounting department by performing accounting tasks and assisting with financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to tight timelines.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prior to Controller sign-off.
- Own the integrity of the balance sheet, ensuring all reconciliations are completed on time, reviewed to a high standard, and that reconciling items are clearly understood, aged, and resolved.
- Provide day-to-day leadership across AP, AR, and General Ledger teams, ensuring alignment, accountability, and delivery against deadlines.
- Act as the first point of escalation for accounting issues, resolving complex items independently where possible.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies, proactively identifying gaps and implementing improvements.
- Support audit processes (external and internal), including preparation of audit schedules and responding to auditor queries.
- Maintain high standards of financial integrity and compliance.
- Identify, lead, and implement process improvements across accounting operations to enhance efficiency, scalability, and control.
- Monitor key performance metrics (close timelines, reconciliation quality, query resolution, etc.) and drive continuous improvement.
- Support system enhancements or automation initiatives within the finance function.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (FP&A, Operations, etc.) to ensure accurate financial data and alignment on key issues.
- Provide insights into financial results, supporting better decision-making across the business.
- Act as deputy to the Accounting Controller, stepping in as required and ensuring continuity of leadership.
- Take ownership of key deliverables in the Controllers absence and contribute to strategic finance initiatives.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience
- Bachelors degree in accounting or business equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Strong problem-solving skills including root cause identification and continuous improvement
- Capable of balancing team and individual responsibilities; provides and welcomes feedback; able to foster a strong team environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Receptive to new ideas and feedback
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- Ability to be onsite in our Piscataway office for a minimum of 3 days per week

Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000
