About the Role

The Assistant Controller will report to and assist the VP-Controller to lead all of the company's financial accounting, transactional accounting, tax compliance, treasury management functions, and internal and external financial reporting. They will be responsible for executing and managing the monthly financial close process, including preparation of reporting packages, and verifying all processes are completed timely, and managing the general accounting team. The role is a hands-on position involved in all functions of the accounting department as well as communication of results to the top management levels of the company.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for accounting (both financial and transactional), treasury and tax, with supporting role to the VP-Controller in the areas of compliance, and internal and external financial reporting.
  • Prepare reporting for and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and any other regulatory entities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing process, and provide meaningful analysis and operational reports to management to facilitate the stewardship of the business.
  • Lead, train and mentor the general accounting team members.
  • Maintain an effective system of internal control over the financial statement preparation and reporting processes.
  • Assist with technical accounting issues, including research and drafting policies and memos to document our processes.
  • Assist with external financial and bank audits including communication and coordination with public accounting and legal firms as necessary.
  • Assist with income tax compliance and reporting including coordination with third party tax providers, shareholders and regulatory taxing authorities.
  • Assist with lender and landlord compliance and reporting.
  • Oversee and execute periodic processes including debt covenant compliance, general accruals including reserve estimates, actuarial estimates, LIFO inventory reporting, budget support and other special projects that may arise from time to time.
  • Directly or indirectly supervises all team members within the Tax area. Responsibilities include activities such as interviewing, hiring, promoting, recognition, discipline and firing. Additional duties include department planning and communication, assignment of tasks and duties and assessment of performance.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university or equivalent years of experience required.
  • CPA Certification
  • Public accounting experience preferred
  • Ten or more (10+) years of progressive work experience.
  • Proven leader that can demonstrate development of their team.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with an aptitude for problem solving and process improvement.
  • Ability to establish sound processes and maintain an effective system of internal control.
  • Functions at a high level when working independently or in a group.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be flexible, organized and able to work accurately under time constraints and deadlines.
  • Exceptionally strong computer skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) with previous exposure to ERP systems (Oracle preferred).
