Job DescriptionReporting to the Corporate Controller, the Assistant Corporate Controller oversees corporate-level accounting, general ledger activity, financial reporting, and compliance functions for Spectrum Retirement Communities and its affiliates, including property-owning entities. The Assistant Corporate Controller also serves as the primary point of contact for external auditors, managing the audit process from planning through completion.
In this position, your main responsibilities include:
- Oversee the day-to-day activities of the corporate accounting team, including preparation or review of corporate-level journal entries, account reconciliations and variance analyses. Provide training guidance and performance feedback.
- Responsible for stand-alone accounting of Spectrum's corporate entities and property-owning entities, the combination and consolidation of community owner and operator entities, and oversight of corporate general ledger activity.
- Prepare and review Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements.
- Assist in preparing executive deliverables and ad hoc information requests and reports.
- Maintain fixed asset records and job cost process as it relates to capital acquisitions and improvements.
- Partner & coordinate with internal teams to ensure alignment, accuracy & efficiency of key deliverables.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, managing the annual financial audit process from planning through completion.
- Ensure compliance and controls are maintained and improved across all accounting and related functions.
QualificationsTo be successful in this position, we believe that you need the following experiences, strengths, and skills:
- Bachelor's in Accounting required. CPA preferred.
- Expertise in U.S. GAAP, including the ability to interpret and apply new standards.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Financial/Accounting experience in Multi-Family Property or Real Estate environment preferred
- Real estate industry experience required, gained through public accounting, industry roles, or both, with familiarity in OpCo/PropCo structures preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills required; Experience with Yardi preferred.
- Strong technical writing skills for preparing audit-ready memoranda and SOPs.
- Preserve and protect the privacy, confidentiality and security of all records, proprietary and other confidential information relating to Spectrum Retirement.
- Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities, meet deadlines with high attention to detail with a strong problem-solving mindset and customer service orientation.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across departments.
