Nature of Work

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the organization's accounting operations, internal controls, and compliance activities. The role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, managing month-end and year-end close processes, supporting audits, and supervising and developing accounting team members. The Assistant Controller serves as a key business partner to business units and corporate management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Review and approve general ledger entries
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Oversee all AR and AP functions
  • Supervise and develop AR and AR staff members
  • Assist in maintaining effective internal controls over accounting processes
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting standards.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Review and approve treasury transactions, wire transfers, ACH payments, and other cash disbursements in accordance with company policies
  • Oversee the fixed asset accounting function, including asset capitalization, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and impairment assessments
  • Prepare and file annual personal property tax renditions and related business property tax returns
  • Oversee preparation, review, and timely filing of sales and use tax returns across applicable jurisdictions
  • Build relationships to forge partnerships with business units.
  • Support the improvement of processes across the accounting function
  • Assist in special projects as required


Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to financial software systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate within a team-oriented environment.

Education

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from a four-year college/university.


Experience

  • Minimum of 3-4 years public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in construction accounting preferred

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • May require periods of overnight travel
