POSITION SUMMARY

As the Assistant Controller, you will be deeply involved in the accounting function and have responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, completing reconciliations, supporting month-end close, and ensuring the integrity of financial data across all company entities while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and reporting requirements. As a critical member of the accounting team, you will work closely with the Corporate Controller and our Executive Team and will play a critical role in overseeing daily accounting operations in a growth-oriented environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. General Ledger & Financial Accounting
  • Maintain and oversee the General Ledger for multiple entities
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, allocations, and adjustments
  • Own and manage the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycle, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with reporting standards
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of monthly financial reporting packages to the Executive Team
  • Manage the company ERP interface at each month-end, including real-time troubleshooting of integration issues and maintaining integrity of accounting data within ERP systems
  • Ensure journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation meet audit standards and internal control requirements
  • Complete bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review and maintain chart accounts and account accuracy
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances
  • Identify opportunities for automation and increased efficiency within accounting workflows
  • Maintain separate books and records for multiple entities (AP/AR, Reconciliations, Payroll, etc.)
  • Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations
  • Ensure proper coding and allocation of expenses across entities
  • Review vendor payments, invoice coding, customer billing, and collections activity
  • Ensure accurate processing and recording transactions
  • Assist with cash flow monitoring and reporting


2. Compliance & Reporting
  • Assist with audit preparation and external accountant requests
  • Support tax preparation by maintaining organized and accurate financial documentation
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting procedures, and company policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and company information
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and compliant with company policies and accounting standards


3. Leadership & Strategic Contribution
  • Lead, develop, and retain a team of accounting professionals
  • Set clear performance expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and build a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Participate with senior executives and accounting leadership in establishing operational objectives and continuous improvement priorities
  • Identify and drive opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes, leveraging technology including AI tools where appropriate
  • Contribute to the development of accounting policies, procedures, and evaluation criteria for systems and process initiatives
  • Represent the accounting department in cross-functional projects and executive-level discussions as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
  • Proven ability to manage and develop accounting teams through periods of growth and expansion
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and internal controls
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial systems, and reporting tools
  • Track record of driving process improvement, automation, or accounting system enhancement initiatives
  • Experience interfacing with external auditors and senior leadership on financial reporting matters


AI Requirement
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled accounting tools and automation technologies
  • Proven experience implementing process automation or AI-driven workflow improvements
  • Ability to design dashboards and data-driven operational systems

Preferred
  • CPA or equivalent experience; candidates without a CPA but with strong Financial Reporting track records are encouraged to apply
  • Experience with ERP implementations or consolidations
  • Proficiency in Procore and Sage Intacct

  • Base Salary: Competitive, based on experience
