Assistant Controller

What we are looking for:

Under the direction of the Controller, the Assistant Controller is a key professional responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls specific to a project-based or construction environment. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and other industry regulations, and provides strategic financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.

What you'll do:

Team Management and Process Improvement
  • Mentor general accounting staff and provide leadership support.
  • Evaluate and implement technology efficiencies, process improvements, systems optimizations, team development, training and standardization.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the accounting function.

Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting
  • Review consolidated financial statements, including monthly internal financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports. Be able to prepare if needed.
  • Assist with the month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assist General Accounting Manager in oversight of general ledger accounting.
  • Manage accounts payable manager and lead process improvement initiatives in coordination with procurement and project management.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and account reconciliations.

Financial Planning and Management
  • Assist the CFO in the preparation of the annual budget, forecasting, and serving as a budget analyst for various departments.
  • Support Director of Treasury with cash flow management and forecasting.

Compliance, Controls, and Audit
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls and accounting procedures to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Support Controller with annual independent audits, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting.

Who you are:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • 7 -12+ years of progressive accounting experience, WIP, and job costing, preferably in construction.
  • Proven knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). CPA preferred.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in construction ERP/accounting software. CMiC experience is a strong plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel.
  • Passion working with Artificial Intelligence tools to streamline business processes.

Abilities and Soft Skills:
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information.
  • Enjoys digging into problems, identifying root causes, and improving processes.
  • Ability to manage a team and provide mentorship.

What we offer:

The annual base pay for this role is between $165,000 - $210,000. The actual pay is dependent upon many factors, including location, work experience, education, training, transferable skills, business needs, and market conditions.
